Depends on when you sign up.
Right now there are no courses that offer wetsuit dives. you will freeze your ass off. IE: Sat morning, we went out to whytecliff, it took us 30 minutes to get gear on (usually 10 minutes we're in the water) due to frost bite, we get in the water, we swim for 2 minutes and the cold just hits us. dive and we got to about 60 feet before it started easing up. Usually, the deeper you go, the colder you are, it was the opposite for us.
Anyways. So yes, for winter diving (which is the best time to go in BC) dry suit all the time.
During spring/summer you're ok for wet suit, i still use my dry suit.
If you choose to hold off till summer to get certified.. the plankton blooms usually hit around summer and though warmer water, your vis is wrecked 9 times out of 10. The plankton goes away during the night and during the fall/winter season.
Open Water Course
if you take the first open water course in 09.. i'll be in some of the pool sessions.. gotta work on frog kicking and buoyancy.
IDC is located on Broadway and arbutus.
The guy that's doing that particular course was my teacher and I'm going to be going all the way up to instructor with him. He's phenominal and quite the partier.
