Familiar with MLA style?
Anyone know how to cite a dictionary using the MLA referencing style? I can't find anywhere that will tell me, and I don't want to go to the library to find that book just for that...
Is this right? Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. 10th ed. Massachusetts: Merriam-Webster Inc., 1993. Well, with the proper spacing and everything... Is the place and then the printing company supposed to be in that order? Or is it supposed to be "Springfield: Massachusetts U.S.A., 1993"? Also, is this correct? The Holy Bible. Contemporary English Version. Toronto: Canadian Bible Society, 1995. I know, it's summer and this is a long shot.... :kam: *Jen* |

try this: http://www.colacoll.edu/edenslibrary/MLA.htm
if not, ask your t.a. if he/she doesn't know, then I doubt he or she could really dock you for writing it incorrectly. also, the order is the place and THEN the printing company. :) --Joanne :P |

just outta curiosity...
why would you need to cite a dictionary source? i mean isnt the main purpose to cite to mention another persons opinion on a matter that has no real right or wrong answer? a definition is a definition. why would you need to say where you got it? and if you do need to cite it then i think you gotta underline the name of the dictionary (since you gotta underline all titles with MLA) i'd cite it like this (also according to my writer manual) "term you looked for." Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. 10. Ed. 1993 |
