at the airport does it cost extra to check your board with your bags or is it free?

pretty sure its covered as luggage as long as its in a case and under 40kilos.....call the airport and ask though

The snowboard and boot bag count as one set of luggage.

They will put it in the oversize check in. Make sure they put a 'Fragile' tag on them.

You should double check with your carrier the rules they have with luggage and any claim procedure they might have in case of loss/damage.

When I have flown with my gear I have never been hassled.

it'll be put with special baggage and it'll be treated like crap most likely. wrap it in towels or something

Go to Home Depot and get some foam pipe insulation.

Costs like $2 a piece and cut it doen to size. It is already slit on one side so you just wrap it around the edges and tape them down or get some nylon clips and straps and tie it up.

It'll protect the edges from cutting through your bag if the board impacts something.

Be careful, my Mom flew on Alaska and they melted her brand new surf board. After making a huge deal out of it they gave her the replacement money.
