I had so much hope for the life of pi, seriously! The first part of that novel is so beautifully written and constructed..

but the ending of the book really let me down, bigtime.

The ending just seemed like such a copout, and when I don't like the end of a book, I feel like my whole investment was wasted.

Kelly have you read Catcher in the Rye?

Booo! What a poor piece of "American Classic" liturature. Its like the entire book is filler. No content. *shudder*

This and Lord of the Flies

Ah, good entertaining "Dont wanna put them down" books?

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Might not be dumbed down or anything, but are easy enough to get, and a joy to read.

Holden Caufield is a fucking pillar character in literature as far as I'm concerned!

We can all relate to him a little.

TAKE IT BACK.

BOO!

both of those books are on my favourite books list.

Kelly: "The five people you meet in heaven" by Mitch Albolm
"The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold
"The curious incident of the dog in the night-time" by Mark Haddon

it was a great character study, with the writing giving insight into character and the time period. and NOT dry.

Holden made me want to attempt to slit my wrists with the pages of the book for two reasons:

His character drove me insane because he was just so...FLKGHDGHKLJH!KLJ!!!!
Myra is right, the only other reason it bothered me because I saw some of him in me, me in him.

Catch my drift...?

You can totally see who here read these "Classics" because they wanted to, and who read them because they had to in school.

Neal Stephenson - Snow Crash for the Cyberpunk/Sci-fi category. Actually, anything by Stephenson is pretty sublime. I heard bad reviews for Quicksilver, but haven't read it yet. I'm prolly gonna start reading Zodiac at some point soon.

And for easy/lazy read that's really entertaining and poignant, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.

Siddhartha by Herman Heese.
Short book, about 150 pages. Easily one of the top 3 most powerful books I've ever read. I think Herman Heese also won a Noble prize in literature, not sure if it was for this book, but that should atleast shows that he get's credit for his work.

This book will change your life.
