erin and middle mike
hey, we watched Big Fish and Thirteen yesterday night.
Big Fish: WOW I LOVE TIM BURTON. i mean seriously, the guy never disapoints me with one of his movies. this movie was really really beautiful. burton always seems to work outside of our own reality, so it was a bit strange and hard to adjust at first to the scenes that were very realistic...with the son and the french wife and the dying father in the bed. but i really like how he coupled the realistic with the unrealistic...and you totally thought that the dad was just telling all these fake stories, but by the end of the movie you don't even know what is real and what is fake anymore, which i really like. it's like reality doesn't really matter anymore by the end of the film. Thirteen: this movie hit a little too close to home for me with things that happened to my sister when she was growing up, so it was really difficult to watch. i kinda figured when i picked the movie out that it was going to resemble things that went on in my house a little bit, but i didn't know exactly how much ,and it kinda rattled me. i don't think i could ever watch it again. that being said, it was a really great movie. the girl in it is an incredible actress. and i really like how the director slowly drains colour from the film until by the end of it, it's almost entirely black and white, but the colour comes back when the mother finally has that breakthrough and they fall asleep together on the bed. if you didn't notice this, you should watch it again and look for the colour fading from the movie. it's a really great effect. Movies (ones i've watched are in bold...you can come pick them up): Thirteen Starsky and Hutch xx/xy The Birdcage Mean Girls Big Fish Pieces of April Along Came Polly School of Rock Fahrenhype 9/11 This is Spinal Tap Matchstick Men Last edited by sidekick; Feb 19, 05 at 09:47 PM. |

Jake I feel you on both movie reviews. I loved "Big Fish" for the ending it made you think of the whole movie again. The stories were great and being a story teller my self I loved more.
We watched "Love Actually" It was good. I thought there was too many stories going on. I would have liked to see more information on a couple stories. Some times it got confusing. My Favs were the Man and his Portuiguise maid and the Brithish Rock star. Brithish I always enjoy. Erin wathced Signs without me so I will get back to you on that one. We should keep this movie exchange going I like it. |

^i think saturday might be good.
and yeah, i liked how it was more about fate and karma than about aliens. i just try to ignore the alien part most of the time because it's kinda cheesy (especially when they show the aliens at the end) |

Matchstick Men: i really liked this movie. you were totally right about the directing style, mike. i dug it. and nicholas cage did some top notch acting in this one, too. i should have seen the ending coming, but i didn't, so it was a nice surprise.
School of Rock: funny movie...jack black is always good for a laugh and it did have a lot of great music in it (the song they do is actually pretty good). made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. GO KIDDIES! REACH YOUR POTENTIAL! |
