ohh interesting...you've read all three and they don't explain where they come from? that's cool...
i like the mixture of magic and technology that pullman puts into his books, i was thinking about writing a short story of a small town that is under seige from a group of villanous outlaws and monsters and there would be muskets and primitive cannons...i just haven't bothered to start it yet.
