If you move out of a place and cant move your stuff, then right afterwards your ex roomate holds your stuff untill you pay her money. You dont owe her anything or owe any rent or anything, she just wants you to pay her to get your stuff back.

Is this in any way legal? Im pretty sure it isnt, but I wanna know if theres any side laws or anything to this?!?!?!

Anyone know?

plan and simple,, she has no right to keep your stuff, even if you did owe her money for rent. which you say you dont. she still has no legal right to keep your possessions, its theft.

I moved out and had to leave stuff there for less then like 3 days.
Then she said I cant get it unless I pay her $150
But if I dont come get it and give her $150, she is charging me more to keep it. Which I cant pay. So If I dont pay her the money I in no way owe her to get my stuff, she is going to ask for more to get my stuff.

But I can get my stuff tomarrow, just no money!

Should I be calling the police for this?

matt: if I remember correctly you told me that you gave the main landlord notice that you were leaving the place..... so legally you are out of the residence.... your former roomate is NOT the owner of that place so ya she has no right holding you shit.

you should call the police, atleast get some advice from them. BUt as far as I know and have learned in law, she cant keep your stuff.

Well, I have someone in Chilliwack willing to get my stuff and keep it with them till I can get it (without having to pay them!)

But I cant be there. If this is against the law, then having them go to get my stuff tomarrow and just having a police officer there would probably be best.

If you were on the lease/rental agreement with her, she can't legally hold the stuff.

Just call the police, they will force her hand.

Even if you owe her the money, it makes no difference. And I don't care what the situation is, I am just stating, money or not, she can't do it.
