ARTIST: Shad K
ALBUM: The Old Prince
WEBSITE: CBC Radio 3 - New Music Canada - Artist - Shad
SCORE: 4.5/5

GOOD/FAV TRACKS ON ALBUM:
In my opinion, one of the best hip hop albums to come out of Canada in a long time. Fav tracks: Get Up, I Heard You Had A Voice Like An Angel, Exile, and Out of Love (part 2).

<edit>The first time I heard this line from Get Up, I was completely blown away:
"folks try to master this game I call money for masochist, but if you want to make a cut, got to match the rib (?), dig in your pocket - not for cash, but to slash your wrist."<edit>

BAD:
Normally, there are a few songs that you skip through when you're listening to a CD. I found that I enjoyed all the tracks on the album, even the interlude skits. The CD just doesn't feel long enough though with only 13 tracks.

SOUNDS LIKE (similar artists):
Think a bit of Felt/Eyedea meets Little Brother/Foreign Exchange with Del the Funkee Homosapien, a less jazzy Sound Providers, etc.

ARTIST: DJ Khaled & DJ Nasty w/ Oddz.N.Endz
ALBUM: Soul Survivor
WEBSITE: DJ Khaled & DJ Nasty w/ Oddz.N.Endz - Soul Survivor (Hosted By Young Joc) | MixtapeTorrent.com
SCORE: 4.5/5

GOOD/FAV TRACKS ON ALBUM:
My fav tracks are "Young Buck and Marvin Gaye - Shorty Wanna Get It On", "Dem Franchise Boyz and The Temptations - Lean On Me, Rock Wit It" and "T.I, Lil Scrappy and James Brown - King In A Man's World".

BAD:
The skits and intros can get kind of annoying. SO YOU THINK IT'S A GAME, HUH? LIII-IISTEEN.

SOUNDS LIKE (similar artists):

HEY GUYS, Thanks for making this thread not suck anymore, I'll definitely have to check out some of the selections you guys recommended.

-------------------

ARTIST: Blu & Exile
ALBUM: Below the Heavens (2007)
SCORE: 4.25/5

GOOD/FAV TRACKS ON ALBUM:
Blu (emcee) and Exile (producer) make beautiful music, kinda like Nicolay and Phonete (Little Brother) does with The Foreign Exchange. I like an artist that can laugh at themselves, and make light of their life. Strong lyrics, beautiful flow, this album is classic.

Tracks that I dig? First Things First, Blu Collar Worker, No Greater Love, Simply Amazing, The World Is

BAD:
Blu sure spits a lot about being broke ("I can be honest with you and tell you I'm a cheapskate, you probably see me sharing drinks with my DJ"), and not having money. Not that it's a bad thing, it's a bit refreshing compared to what populate the music scene with its "bling bling, bitches, hoes, snitches, tricks, booty, bum bum, shake that rump" business.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
The reason why I chose this album and Shad K's Old Prince were because they were honest albums. No bells and whistles, just well produced music with an extremely talented emcee.

SOUNDS LIKE (similar artists):
Common, Talib, Shad K, Foreign Exchange

ARTIST: Big John
ALBUM: The Next Step
RELEASED: Jan. 29, 08
SCORE: 2.5/5
GOOD/FAV TRACKS ON ALBUM: 3 Kings, Amazing Stories
BAD: Big John is very hard to listen to. Mainly cuz of his flow and delivery. He just sounds awkward as hell. Especially on tracks with Kool G Rap and Canibus where he just gets embarrassed. He raps about the typical stuff a white kid from the suburbs would. How he rebelled against his surroundings and kept it real. Apparently he used to live under a bridge.
FINAL THOUGHTS: The album was so-so. It had 4 or 5 nice beats and the rest were trash. Like I said above Big John isn't that nice. The only reason I gave his album a listen is cuz he's from Tacoma, WA so I consider him a local artist. The shining spots were the Canibus and G Rap collabs.
SOUNDS LIKE (similar artists): A worse version of Esoteric.

You're a f4ggot for 2 reasons.

1 this is a review thread for new albums. Everyones heard Moment of Truth so stop trying to look cool for reviewing it like you know what good hip hop is.

2 giving that album anything less than a 5/5 score eliminates your credibility to speak on hip hop. New jack
