which hands do you use for scratching?
im just starting out so gimme some pointers :)
im right handed.. im using my right hand for the fader and my left for the record.. also i have my fader on normal (not reverse) ive found that my left hand cant keep up with the speed i move the fader at with my right hand... is this because i should have my right hand on the record instead? or just because i havent gotten used to the movement with my left hand yet? thanks! john 2899131 |

im right handed, so i use my right hand on the record if i wanna go nuts, but my left hand on the fader is still slow...
but i still can scratch with the record in my left hand, which is kinda slower for my, but i can do more fader work.... i just practice on both... |

I think it's cause you haven't gotten used to the movement yet.. just keep practicing.. DJ's need to be ambidextrous.. and get to know your mixer, some mixer's have crossfaders that go fade in increments of 20% at the outer quarters and 40-60% in the middle.. read your mixer manual..

I'm right handed, I scratch with my left and cut the fader with my right. I can scratch a lot better with my right hand, but can't move the fader worth shit with my left. Since I've been borrowing my friends decks for the last little while, I've noticed that my left hand is getting better at moving the record, though I only usually scratch during the last song of the set (trying to hone my mixing skills!). Just keep practicing and you'll notice the difference!!

catch 22... if you put your good hand on the wax you won't be able to cut as well. if you stick it on the fader your record will be slower than your cuts.
i like having my good (left) hand on the record, but i think learning both ways is important - not only for juggling, which i can't do worth shit anyways, but for general scratchmastery <-- that word rules, it reminds me of skullduggery, which reminds me of pirates. yeah, pirates are rad. |
