i'm not really into hip hop myself but what about some Mastermind stuff? (i think he's canadian...obscene underground volume 2). or what about that track by Kardinal Offishal? i don't know the name of the track...so that really doesn't help. but on muchmusic they sometimes play the track as background music during some of their muchmusic commercials.

I LOVE Canadian Hip Hop. Main Source - Live At The BBQ ft. Nas & Akinele Dream Warriors - Float On ft. Kuya, Day In Day Out Maestro Fresh Wes - Anything from "The Black Tie Affair" Saukrates - Hate Runs Deep Ghetto Concept - Krazy World Dan E O - Dear Hip Hop Anything by Monolith Mastermind - The Bump Kardinal - Mysteries Of The Night, On Wid Da Show Infinite - 360 IRS - T Dot Anthem(that song is rough!!!) Raskalz - Northern Touch, Really Livin', Population Control...... aww fuck........ all of it. Raskalz are dope!!! I think that Canadian Hip Hop has finally made a name for itself in today's music industry. People(especially Americans) are finally realizing that we have something to offer. Take a look at acts like Kardi and Choclair, they are getting regular rotation on BET!!! Then there's Puff Daddy who straight jacked the Rascalz on one of Shyne's tracks and even got Barrington Levy to sing the hook. I was mad at first..... but you know your shit is good when people jack it like that. I'm glad there were people like Thrust, Michie Mee, Main Source and Dream Warriors around. They laid the foundation. -Dwight:Somatic: |

dj4mula...
I have been a die hard Canadian Hip Hop fan since I heard "Let Your Backbone Slide."
I have to agree with you. The CRTC(sp?) has been waaaay to slow in this regard. For years it has been pissing me off. I think one of the big things that started the revolution was when the Raskalz refused their Juno becuase it wasn't televised. Now THAT made me proud. Now we got "urban" music all over the place. We got Chum TV coming out with Much Vibe, which will take Much's "urban" efforts one step further. I agree with you though..... it starts with radio. A lot of the business community in Vancouver(or in Canada for that matter) juss don't see that "urban" music can be a huge source of cash. And that's where it all starts...... with the dollar. -Dwight:Somatic: |
