form n kaos scratch practice
who would be interested in setting up some sort of semi-regular scratch practice sessions for people on the board?
i know there are a few good scratchers on the board (kaos, precise, blunted) and some people that are just begening or intermediate. i wont be moving out till may, but i'd like to start doing it then. ill have a bit of studio going by then so doing at my house would be cool, but we could switch to whomever's house anytime. i figure this will be a good way for the more experience tablists on this board to learn from eachother, and a way for the beginers to get some hands on experience. who's down? |

so there looks like there's about 8 people down for this.
thats a good size. you cant have too many people because there will probably be no more then 4 decks and 2 mixers at any session. ill organize this in may when school's out and im in my new place. thanks for the replies. |

sounds like you're off to a really good start.
flares a sooo tricky. yah ill be using my empath, but i was hoping someone would be able to bring over a proper battle mixer as well for each session because my empath doesnt have curves for the upfaders (no hamster style.) and john...if i ever caught you spitting on my mixer i would put and ax in the back of your head. :finger: Quote:

^^^^if you purely want a scratch mixer then get a rane 56. there is nothing better for scratching.
it you want to hook up some sort of efx box its the ideal scratch mixer to get. there's usually a bunch of deals on them on ebay, but there arent any at the moment. dont waste your money buying this stuff new. a rane 56 is very dependable. a warranty isnt necesarily needed. heres an empath at a good price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=14986 idealy you want something like a a&h xone 92 and a rane 56 on the side. unfortunately, neither you or i have money like that. i got a rane empath and a efx 500 because i thought it was the best value i could get for my money. dont underestimate the importance of a 3rd channel. it opens up a whole world of possiblilites in your mixes. say you're doing a blend and you want to mix out of it. having a third channel/table makes it easy to mix out, instead of having to end the blend short and make a quick mix. the empath has wicked faders. not the magnetic ones in the 56, but they are rated at 2 million operations so it should last you for about 5-6 years. not having hamster style available sucks, but its not that hard to switch to the crossfader. there are curves on the channel 1 and 3 faders so that helps a bit. just no reverse switch. its the empaths only weekness. i'd recomend getting the empath and the efx 500. you can get an empath off of ebay for 950 (thats including shipping) and a efx 500 for 420 (inlcuding shipping.) its a very diverse set up. fuck i love gear. |
