Hip Hop suggestions
well i'm a devoted fan of some of the more underground hip hop artists (not discriminating against mainstream it's just personal preference) so I was hoping some of you had some specific suggestions.
I'm a huge fan of the following artists: Aesop Rock Buck 65 Sage Francis Atmosphere Mystik Journeymen Murs Dilated Peoples Zion I so if anyone knows of any similar artists or even specific songs by any of those artists please post :) |

Ahh shit, net cred just increased exponentially! :p I used to be more into the 'underground' stuff, I'm not so much anymore. I see you didn't have Josh Martinez on your list, I'm sure you'd like him lots. I'll list some suggestions, if you'll let me, I'll make you a mix cd, I seriously love doing that for people. I think it's important if you're really infatuated with a genre of music to appreciate the classics: A tribe called quest (probably my favorite hip hop group, midnight maurauders is a good album to get ahold of) Wu Tang Clan-Enter the Wu/36 Chambers is a MUST own Dead Prez -Let's get free The Roots- Illadelph Halflife Krs One- I got next De La Soul- 3 feet high and rising Beastie Boys- Paul's Botique The Fugees- The Score Souls of Mischief- 93 till infinity Gangstarr- The Ownerz Westside Connection- Bow Down (I'm probably missing a lot of classics, but it's a start) Some artists: Mc Solaar, Company Flow, J5, Blackalicious, the lost boyz, the jugganauts, early notorious B.I.G and jayz, pharcyde, Loveage (dan the automator, kid koala, some chick and paul barman) |

ink operated - it's super tight local hiphop, their stuff is pretty abstract so if you like Josh Martinez im sure you can get into these guys
deep puddle dynamics - again these guys are pretty absract as well. this is pretty much as experimental as hiphop can get. they are basically a collective of mc's from all over the u.s., slug from atmospere is in this group as well as dose one and a couple other guys from anitcon. the streets - i know csquared already suggested these guys, but if you get a chance you should take a listen to their new cd 'a grand dont come for free'. alot of the tracks are pure shit but there are a couple of good songs that make the cd worth listening to. check out 'blinded by the lights'. roots manuva - another dope UK hiphop act. check out 'brand new second hand'. this cd didnt leave my discman for about a month straight. company flow - super influential (to me at least) nyc underground hiphop group. these guys are basically the epitome of what hiphop can and should be. they have a back to basics, b-boy approach their stuff. listen to '8 steps to perfection' 'weight' and 'vital nerve'. |
