Mitchell Brothers (BreezeBlock) Minimix [Uk HipHop]
Mitchell Brothers
• The Mitchell Brothers are the first signing to Mike Skinner’s The Beats label. Tony and Teddy Mitchell are both 24 and claim Manor Park, Ilford and Stockwell as their ends. • Teddy and Tony, with the support of a group of mates called ylimaf (pronounced ‘wiley mouf’), pressed up 1,000 mix CDs called Sorted. This was big on road. • They inked their deal after Tony Mitchell performed a reverse pickpocket manoeuvre in the queue at Barclays in Brixton and slipped a demo CD into Skinner’s pocket. One tune was called Rev Those Engines which “was about cars and bikes but could have been about ladies” and another called Keep It Geezer. These tunes will remain unreleased. • Routine Check is their first single. It is produced by Mike Skinner and tells a story of youths in jeans and creps (probably black Stan Smiths or Reebok Classics) being stopped by the police. It contains verses from Skinner and Kano. • The last time The Mitchell Brothers were routine checked was on Christmas Eve. They were driving a rental Audi A3 from Avis and were stopped in Oval. • Their video was made by the same people who made Dizzee’s Dream and was filmed around London Bridge. There are no booty shots, unless you count car boots. It’s great. • Clothes are important to The Mitchell Brothers. Tony prefers Lacoste and Polo (“the classic, not the American”), wheras Teddy heads for “sharp” Aquascutum. Classic Mitchell items include a flat cap from the Wandsworth Rd market and a slightly loose Fred Perry V-neck jumper. “We look very British,” says Teddy. • Next up is a support slot for the Streets forthcoming UK tour. You can expect “innovation and some shots of Hennessy.” • Their debut LP is coming. It was written on the back seat of the Streets’ tour bus during their recent US tour. While Teddy appeared on Fit But You Know It, and both of them appeared on the remix of Blinded By The Light, they were not performing on said tour. Instead, they wrote tunes, handed out VIP passes to pretty girls and helped themselves to the rider. The Mitchell Brothers would like to leave you with this thought: “Students please check out our style/ Tweed, chequered and Argyle/ If it ain’t chav on the lad/ Then it don’t get in our pile/ Flat caps on our melons/ New Eras – forget ‘em/ Collars stay over the jumper/ That’s our secret weapon”.
