January 25, 2007 Plaza of Nations granted a demolition permit Canadian Metropolitan Properties Corp., owner of the Plaza of Nations, has been granted a permit by the City of Vancouver to demolish the glass canopy roof and adjacent structures within the Plaza of Nations. Enterprise Hall, home of the Edgewater Casino, will not be affected. Late last year, the glass roof over the performance space was deemed unsafe by the City’s Chief Building Official when extensive corrosion was discovered. The owner immediately ceased use of the space and erected hoarding. While the roof covering will be removed for safety reasons, the owner has committed to ensure ongoing open-air use of the outdoor performance venue. A long-term, permanent strategy to rebuild or replace the performance venue will be explored as part of an anticipated review of overall plans for Northeast False Creek. The Plaza of Nations has many memories for Vancouverites, and has played an important role as a venue for many of our arts and cultural communities in the City, Mayor Sam Sullivan stated. The City is committed to working with the property owner to start a long-range planning process to develop a permanent, covered, outdoor performance venue that retains the spirit of Expo 86. The structures that comprise the Plaza of Nations – with the exception of Enterprise Hall - were originally designed as temporary facilities for Expo 86. The outdoor performance venue and adjacent structures have been used over the years for entertainment and business purposes. ^There's already an application in for the Vogue to become a 1000 person nightclub on the Granville strip. Personally, I think it's going to be an up hill battle for them seeing how that block of the strip already has a lot of issues with the crowds at Tonic and The Roxy.

^ might get a lot of public blacklash from that from the non clubbers, lots of people think of that theatre as a herritage building, or landmark, etc...I don't think they'd be keen on the idea....I for one would like to see a killargh club open up that's NOT on Granville street but still in a good location.
