Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for life----looking for runners and volunteers!!!

hey everyone,
as you may or may not know i'm the relay for life's volunteer coordinator this year for the bear creek run in surrey

the relay will be happening on friday june 11-sat june 12th 2004

the opening cerominies will begin at 7:00pm. on friday june 11th

if you've never heard of the relay before here's some info:

-you sign up in teams and take turns walking, running or strolling around a track in a non competitive relay

-you can relax and have fun off the track by enjoying activities and entertainment in a tent village.

-you set up tents to nap in during the nite while the rest of your team runs/walks or strolls

-there is a keg dinner for sale, as well as breakfast, tons of prizes and lots of entertainment.

there are a few different things that you can do to get involved with the relay

1. get involved in a team.
-become a team captain and find out how teamwork makes this event great. Gather 10 friends, family members, neighbours or co-workers and form your team. Our team captain's kit is available at your local canadian cancer society office and will help make your team a success. if you can't captain a team, join one!
the average relay participant raises over $150---challenge yourself to beat that total.

2. celebrate the survivors victory lap
-the inspiring survivors victory lap (the first lap of the relay for life) gives survivors an oppurtunity to:
-share and celebrate success in their battle against cancer
-give hope to people living with cancer and their families
-thank everyone who helped them through their battle

3. be inspired by the luminary ceremony
-luminaries are candles placed in special bags that bear the names of cancer survivors or those who have lost their battle or are still fighting the battle.
-luminaries are lit at approx 10:30pm on the first nite of the relay.
the luminaries provide light and inspiration for participants as they walk around the track.

***luminaries can be purchases for five dollars and you can write a name of a loved one, or even a message for those with cancer.

4. get your company involved
-demonstrate your company's commitement to the community by supporting relay for life. enhance your corporate image, meet your business objectives and show your customers you care. contact your local canadian cancer society office to find out how your company can:

-sponsor an event
-donate products or services
-register corporate teams
-encourage staff to volunteer

5. Volunteer.
I need lots of volunteers, and like i said i am doing the surrey relay....there are many different positions, just get in contact with me and i can email you all the different ones.
if you still want to volunteer but dont want to come all the way to surrey...no problem....check out the website or phone them to see where there will be a run near you.

if you would like to volunteer contact me:

can you run AND volunteer?

I want to help either way, but I wouldn't mind having something like that to motivate me to workout/train etc.

you cant run and volunteer at the same event i dont think

but you can run at one event...say the abbotsford or white rock one and volunteer at the bear creek one.

I agree, that would be fun (and for an important cause which is always good.)
