Green day is COMING BACK
That's right kiddies!!!! Green Day is coming back to Vancouver!
Sept. 27, 05 @ GM Place I've seen these guys a few times now and it's always a good show. No ticket info yet or supporting bands.... either way, I'll most likely check out the show. http://www.pollstar.com/tour/searcha...&Date=09/27/05 |

OH shut it.... the term 'sell out' is such a fucking joke. How did they sell out?
You don't think they "sold out" when they released Dookie, or Nimrod, or Insomniac? I mean Dookie was their first MAJOR LABEL album with Reprise... they left their label Lookout records for them. I mean really, what the hell does selling out even mean? They're making the same music they've always made.... Honestly, I just hate the term sell out. It's not like they changed their music to make the record labels happy, it's not like they were some sort of underground punk band before the release of American Idiot. Hell I'd say the album American Idiot is a good example of how they haven't sold out.... the album is politically charged so it doesn't look like they bent to the whims of some big record label to change their lyrics and the such. I think the term sell out is far too over used. Basically, if a band that is formerly unknown or underground and all these kids who listen to them think they're some sort of elite club has any sort of sucess they're sell outs? Why? Is it because they're making money or is it because these poor kids don't feel so elite anymore? Last edited by Cdn_Brdr; May 05, 05 at 12:00 PM. |

THIS is what it means.
they USED to have good beats. NOW they don't because the beats they are making <edit/ are /> made to be sold to a certain demographic of people. They ALTER their art, in order to make it more pallatable to the public. They SELL OUT their original ideas by falling once again to the beast that is capitalism. |

yeah...okay, YOU start a band that makes music that no one wants to listen to and see how far you get! if you want to keep making music that is widely dispersed, you have to SELL some of it. any idiot can figure that out. i hate people that say whenever an artist gets really big that they are 'selling out'. oh Nirvana 'sold out'...whateeeeever. just because their music starts to get more popular and more people buy it doesn't mean it's sold out. the people who claim music is 'selling out' are the people that are pissed because they don't have their underground 'cool' status anymore...and they have to share their band with other people. |

Nah i dont think that they catered their music towards an audience, more like the sound they played became mainstream and they had alot of attention towards their music at the release of dookie.
I remember i used to think Green Day was mainstream crap and would go listen to anti-flag, operation ivy or dead kennedys. Alot of punks even started hating on NOFX because too many people knew about them lol. Then i realized it was fuckin retarded and listened to whatever i felt had substance. The sound on dookie was highly marketable if your gonna run by that example, so many bands were running that sound long before that CD. They have just matured, aged, and created a new CD with the same Green day flavor with didn't melodys and chorus's. So what is really different? American Idiot is a forumula green day track. There sound has just been around for so long. Punk "sold out" long before we were all even born! It's all about a bands demeanor to the public, their lyrics and what they do with their spotlight once they are there, that really makes or breaks a mainstream band for me. ex. oasis, that smug fuck will never get a listen from me. Well, I was simply saying, that their music has changed since dookie. It is certainly not the same at all. And also, that I personally do not find the change, for the better. If you do, rad.
I just think they were MAD rad before, now they're just you kno, MEH. *shrugs* |

yeh i know what ur saying, they've been around for a long time so its bound to change. We can't go back to when that sound was new(er) and refreshing, but i still enjoy their music and would love to hear all my old favourites live..

that's cool if you just meant their change in style. but changing style (and i don't really think green day has changed THAT much) doesn't mean they were 'selling out' like you said in your first post. that's what i was responding too. |
