Extreme Bands
Some bands have chosen to focus on extreme costuming and stage sets in order to create a strong sense of immersion into 'their world' of music, theatrics, and performance. Sometimes, shocking actions not directly associated with their music will become part of the performance, in order to excite the audience and have their attention focussed completely on what is happening on the stage. These extreme antics also give the performers a sense of credibility as to the relationship between themselves and their music.
 GWAR 
GWAR is a heavy metal group who have created a whole mythological legend around their being. They have enjoyed a huge fan base in the 80's, most likely because of their stage personas and performances, as the music they perform is quite mediocre drum/bass/guitar/vocal music with questionable topics, shown in such titles as We Kill Everything, This Toilet Earth, Saddam A Go-Go, Carnival Of Chaos, etc...
