Even dummies can do Critical Thinking
there is the story of this young woman with Williams syndrome who figured out how to be attractive to boys even tho she isn't that hot: learn everything about sports.
that must take some critical thinking on her part, because i know of girls of average intelligence who never realize that being a sports fan, including the memorization of statistics will improve your popularity with boys. See the following link and search for Nikki Hornbaker. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/08/ma...ewanted=1&_r=1 The guys like talking with her more than with the pretty cheerleaders. The symptoms of Williams include personality disorders and mental retardation, blood calcium problems, heart problems and facial abnormalities. However, these people are affectionate, gregarious, and will talk endlessly for hours and hours. Williams Syndrome Some have extraordinary hearing and may be sensitive to loud noises. Most are worry worts. About half of WS people have ADD or ADHD comorbid with their syndrome. As well, about half have phobias to loud noises, and would get upset if the vacuum cleaner is running. Most probably they do not go to night clubs or rock concerts. Most WS people have some degree of mental retardation. While a few adults are able to live independently, finish high school or vocational training, and live in supervised homes or on their own, most of them live with a caregiver. The likelihood that their child will be able to live semi-independently is determine by parents teaching self-help skills early. Thus, WS children thrive with parents who have learned these self-help skills themselves. Research in the early 1990s led to researchers locating and identifying the genetic mutation responsible for the disorder: the deletion of about 25 genes in a small section of chromosome 7. WS is associated with the following characteristic "cognitive profile" of mental strengths and weaknesses: strengths in verbal short-term memory and language, and severe weakness in visuospatial construction (the skills used to copy patterns, draw, or write). Within language, the strongest skills consist of concrete, practical vocabulary, which in many cases is in the low average to average range for the general population. Abstract or conceptual-relational vocabulary is very limited. Most older children and adults with WS speak their mother tongue fluently using good grammar. So they may speak well, but spell horribly. Yet they are able to adapt when challenged by the "normal" world. Even so, a WS is not gonna take the subtle hints and cues that a conversation is over like you and I. So often they complain people are rude because their audience will walk away while they are still talking!!!! Last edited by jenai; Jul 08, 08 at 11:21 PM. another negative about WS people is that they can't manage their finances.
if you add this to not being able to stfu, then you realize any person who falls in love with the WS person will have to learn to be their caretaker too. this also goes for mentally ill people. just kicking them to the kerb cos they are ditzes and/or knobs when they go off medication or take too much is callous. it shows one does not really have the depth of character to be truly compassionate. however, if their handicap or illness led to drug abuse and its social consequences, then that's no excuse to follow them into hell either. tho walking away is only done out of self preservation not for the sake of unconditional love. |

A WS would go "that's nice" and keep on talking your ear off.
You have to physically remove yourself in order to get her to stop talking to you. Could you imagine if they got a hold of your number and liked to talk on the phone, too? With training, they could be the perfect phonechat girl. |
