The Technology of Simplicity
many of you (as did I) wrote the English provincial a couple of days ago...and "The Technology of Simplicity" was the short composition we had to read and ultimatly write an essay on...
so what do you guys think? Simplicity vs Complexity? To have a "good" life...do you need things to be complex? what kind of life are you living right now? a Simple one? A complex one? And what kind of life would you wanna live? "Good" is such a relative/ambiguous term... In the essay i wrote, i used the extended metaphor of "Life is a rope" throughout the essay. The more and more complex and distorted the rope becomes...the more knots are formed; knots only set one back from acheiving real happiness...essentially they impede one from reaching that state of contentness because knots must be untied... I dunno..in my opinion, i think complexity is the road to pseudo-happiness. |

If there were no complexity there would be no conflict... no challenge... no problems... no real life lessons being learned. Ya complexity can be a pain in the ass but why would you want to live without it? In essence you wouldn't be living.. you'd simply be drifting through life because everything would be so easily achieved... why would I want everything to be simply handed to me?? I would never grow to understand "worth" or "hard work" or "love" or all those other hard earned and sometimes painful values in life that come from hardships and small set backs. Complexity gives life shape and meaning... you learn things from it and go on in life perhpas a lil hurt but wiser becuase of the task you just faced.
I wouldn't want to ever live in a world that didn't challenge me to go out and attain some goal... or to persevere after all seems lost. I would never want to be a naive fuck who thinks nothing bad will ever happen to me. Give me complexity because life would be too hellishly boring without it! if life were simple..stuff would be too easy..boring..everything would just come and there would be no obstacles to overcome...complexity would add the oomph to life by giving the hardships and pains to life...giving a reason to lotsa people to strive to reach their goals cuz of overcoming obstacles...??
if it were lil things in life...simplicity and complexity would depend on the situation..but if it was for ur whole life..i would want complexity...goin thru the knots in life help u learn things..having everything given to u on a gold platter would be nice but yes..it mite get boring after a while~ |

If you want the good life, make a wish and be 6 again.
Life is simple, life is happy. All you worry about is how to add and subtract 1 - 10 and practice your ABC's. You just wonder when recess and gym are and what surprise you are going to get for lunch. Life doesn't have to be complex to be good. Life doesn't have to be boring if it's simple. The way I see it, we are blinded to how easy life really should be. Technology and change makes us slaves to the world we live in today. You can't tell me that people living 100 or 1000 years ago were less happy than we are now. Question everything you learn. Why is an apple called an apple? Who made that decision oh so long ago? Think about that. We accept this for the truth since we are told that it is. We don't go against this. The day you stop asking the questions is the day we become robots and nothing more. Sorry to go off topic a bit. That's the fortune cookie side of me speaking. i think the whole idea is over-simplified.:P
you cannot achieve true elegant simplicity if you do not know yourself, which is why a large deal of teenagers lead overly complex lives. true simplicity is achived by reduction of excess things, which means anyone replying to this thread on a message board on the internet using thier expensive computer can not have a reductionally simple life. as a contrast of societies, the majority of eastern religions preach that only knowing yourself and placing yourself in simple harmony with the rest of the world you can find fulfillment. while the majority of western religions place your ability to reach happiness through the single persons will to succeed through hard work and dedication to a large list of ideals. all about fulfillment yaw'l. r. |

I thought
that the short story was so true.. about how the world is so consuming these days and takes more from the enviroment than it gives back
and the "complex things" I said that a good life is simple, but along the way (the steps to have a good life) may be a little complex... but there are things in life that makes it a little easier.. such as love, of family and friends, and another thing that makes life a little bit more easier is happiness in all that you do in life, and the third and not least is dreams, cause dreams in a way always become your goals but if you believe in yourself anything is possible. hummm.. did that make sense to you guys??? I hope it did and my theme in the original composition of the complex life thing.. was sitting in the examination room of the english 12 provincial room and thinking back on my friends... etc.. I hope I did good on the exam.. and I hope you all did good too! |

i guess there isn't any real answer...i mean it IS all relative to the person answering the question at hand.
Is simplicity actually connotative to bordom? perhaps...however, not to me. Simplicity is yet another ambiguous term. Personally, i see a life of simplicity as living with the bare essentials to be happy. I tend to agree with what Rawb said. There's such a juxtaposition between various cultures and their respective outlooks on life itself. In my opinion, complexity is just that. Complex. Who needs the added problems that come with everyday life? Does complexity make life any more exciting? Or does complexity taint life? Would utopia be complex or simple? in my opinion: simple |
