If you could, would you want to live forever?
Here are the conditions:
1) You would not grow old. You pick an age (18+) and the will be the age forever, you do not age or grow weak. 2) You are immortal. You cannot die. If someone chops up your head/cuts you to bits/blows you up with a bomb, your pieces will be put back together and you will continue on given time to rejuvinate. 3) Although you are immortal, you still can get sick with disease, you still can still catch a cold. You can't die but you will feel the shit as the condition passes through. 4) Although you are immortal, you have no special powers. You are as 'human' and the next person in this sense. 5) Although you are immortal, you will feel pain and suffering, happiness and joy like a normal human. 6) You start your new immortal life right where your 'normal' life ends. For example, if you just finished writing your example to finish school, nothing changes. If you are a bum on the street, nothing changes. Just because you are immortal does not mean instant wealth or power. So, can you live like this? Please, no half assed answers. |

I don't think I could. This is abstract, but I mean, the world will have to end somtime, and I don't wanna be sitting around without anyone. Plus, what if people evolve, Im gunna always be the same. No, I couldnt do it. Maybe live for a few hundred years, thats about it.

hmm...being 21 forever sounds like a good age (legal age AND i'm not too old to wanna stop partying, well at least i think) but no, i wouldn't wanna live forever. i kinda like change. i like having dreams to look forward to in the future. i wanna get married, have children at the "right" age. not at 21 that's for sure. i wanna grow old, i wanna retire. i wanna see what i'd look like when i'm old. :) hehe..wonderful i'm sure i'll look.
this question would also depend if the world aged too. dun wanna be the only person in my to keep living. watching my kids die?? not cool. |

I don't think I could do it FOREVER.. I mean, I would so go for the whole deal, but only live for a few hundred years. Like say i get to the age, 24 or something. i stop aging for 200 years or so, then once that time is up, i start to age again.. grow old and die like a normal human being! I would go for that.. along with all the other things you mentioned. But to live FOREVER? no, i mean everything has to die eventually! and i don't think i would be mentall able to stand forever.. tink of everything you would go thru.. you would loose all your friends, gain new ones, loose those.. you'd see the world before you change, and just keep chaning, eventually things will be so different from before, i would go crazy! But to live for a few hundred years without aging would be good! I mean you'd have your share of joy and pain.. you would get to see you're children grow up..and their children..and their children... and you would get to see the world around you change! I think it would be interesting, but FOREVER is just to much..
Could you live like that Winston? |

live forever?!?! no man not for me just think you will see then end of the world and it's gonna be one boring ass ride... plus once it's over .. well your pretty much screwed.. gonna have to wait a few million years b4 you start to see life again.. but of course if you lived to see then end of the world im pretty sure you could figure out how to make a new one.. think about it.. clone something make it evolve faster by nuturing it and training.. pretty sure you could even clone a human by then.. make it the opposite sex and procreate.. fix all the wrong in a new world that you would create.. no guns no nukes no money wutever! and you will be the molder.. of course if your immortal then just wut do you do if the earth gets struck by something massive like saturn or something... i would say that i would have to have a perfetly compatable mate to roam around with that is also imortal and will live forever... and an imortal dog too.. but imortal is not for me.. maybe the same life span as now and just never aging or like an off switch that only i can use.

hmm..i dun't think i could ever live forever...as people already said..the pain of losing everyone u love..watching everyone die around u..thats one of my greatest fears...imgaine goin thru that forever cuz u'll make new friends..luv new people..and then they'll die too..then yeah..the cycle continues...
and wut if u get hurt badly?..like u get burned or u get a disease..imagine living like a vegetable for life!!...for eternity..u cant even wish for death cuz u know it ain;t happening..ur just stuck and ur in 24/7 pain and nuthin can ever be done..then if the end fo the world came..u'd be screwed...u'd be hungry, all alone, probably suffering more due to wutever happened to the world..and u'd be screwed badly cuz yeah..ur still a vegetable..(no offense to vegetable people)..but yeah i dunno..the good parts would be that u'd never have to worry about growing old or getting wrinkles or losing hair or nething...u'd be forever young and live forever...no worries about death either..but then keeping a good life would be hard...u'd have to work for sure to make sure u got money..it'd have to be a good job to cuz u'd be there for a long time..then in case u wouldn;t want people to know ur secret..u;'d have to switch it or move rfom place to place..so they don't think ur sum sorta freak and wanna dissect u or sumthing...eewww..imagine being dissected and then put back together cuz ur stil living..then u'd have flailing bodyparts and stuff..gross..hmmm..yeah..i;'ve rambled enuf...i don't think i could do this ever...who could? |

I would HATE to live forever, especially the way my life is going right now. However, I WOULD like to live until I've had the chance to experience absolutely EVERYTHING that I've dreamed about experiencing, even if it's totally whacked. I think that if there's no end to life, you would probably lose motivation to do things, because you would realise that you have all the time in the world, and then you won't feel rushed to try anything new. Plus, if you stay one age your entire life, how do you grow? As we age, we go through different experiences, and those experiences are what makes us learn and develop. Buuuuut, if I was to choose an age to stay at for my entire life, it would probably be something young...like 8 years old, so that I can just play with toys and play games with my friends for all eternity. Have birthday parties with loot bags and ice cream cake...all that sort of stuff.

Yes and No...
Yes, cuz that would be interesting...living an ageless life...partying and living the life of youth... But honestly, I'd chose No, cuz I couldn't live the thought of having my loved ones dying around me while I stayed here on earth...that would be too depressing :014: Seeing my parents, my family, my husband, my children, everyone leaving me... |
|
||||
everyone leaving... = meet new ppl.
how long could you have a husband or family for before they realize you are not growing old and such.. im sure the guy would be up for some unaging fresh premanent 18 year old girl to have lotsa kinky sex with. but wouldnt it bother you if your husband would get old and wrinkly and need viagra to get it up. love would be almost impossible to maintain.. which to me would be alright. so i would probably be able to maintain eternal life, for the fact that i dont like emotional attatchment and anything with being close to someone. if i could live forever.. i would be extremely lazy cuz i would have all the time in the world to do what i want..
if you live it through without strings attatched to anyone and such. it wouldnt matter if they died or not. its just life, if i was immortal. i cant help it. if others die and i dont. they shouldnt get pissed off at me. i'd be a cocky bitch and everyone would want me dead. i could be president. WOOHOO. .stabitout. |

Re: If you could, would you want to live forever?
2) You are immortal. You cannot die. If someone chops up your head/cuts you to bits/blows you up with a bomb, your pieces will be put back together and you will continue on given time to rejuvinate.
funny how you put this. A person could have the best time just doing crazy shit and not dying. It could also be quite lucrative, as anyone who can be blown to bits and put back together is a rare someone who can make a fortune in a circus, exploiting his/her odd talent. Some people would really go for that. It would be so impressive, that people would start believing in the "powers" of the immortal F&Ker...who knows, you might get your own religious cult? *ooH* here's my serious answer: I'd like to die eventually, I don't want to see all my famille and friends die before me. It would depress me knowing that this is all there is. I believe in afterlife. so no, forever is a bit too long. julie aliceflight at hotmail |

that kinda question puts a strain on faith as it kinda makes you think...."oh but there's more, there's heaven" and stuff.
But....once you die and go to heaven, would that also not get boring after 80 odd years too? Is there a heaven heaven? And so forth.... Although I *do* believe in an afterlife, i'm pretty agnostic so i'd have to go with the safe bet of accepting immortality. Although I wouldn't have super powers....i'd still get the wisdom over the years and hopefully have great respect within the community. Personally i'm a learner by nature, i love learning new things. The way this world's fast paced environment is going, there'll be new things to learn for ages to come. Oh and plus I can't die in a nuclear holocaust. i choose immortality. edit: what the FUCK wum this thread is old. |

Definately not. Death is a very scarey subject for me, since I havent really been around it. Therefor being immortal, would mean watching EVERYONE I love die. It would mean losing a mother a father, two sisters, a brother. A husband..nieces.. nephews.. pets. You get the picture. That is not something I could stand
Not only could I not handle the deaths.. I would miss out on so much. Growing older is growing wiser.. experiencing new and wonderful things. I wouldnt want to miss it. |

has anyone seen that Star Trek Voyager episode where one of the Q wants to become mortal because he's seen everything the universe has to offer?
He had this really great poignant speech about hearing every possible tune, tasting every food, taking in every sight, and how he wanted to end his life because of it. |

i dont know, cashing in on all those long term investments sounds nice. and it would be wicked to live long enough to make sure i can see the downfall of the USA. :P
but honestly, i wouldnt ever consider that. but i would highly support someone else to. the knowlage and wisdom the human race could gain in the long run is unmeasureable. but i need the thrill of danger, i want the experence of aging, i couldnt just brush off everyone i know cause they are just mortal..... what they hell would you do on earth after a while, youve done it all, seen it all.... i would have to use those long term investment payoffs to keep myself soaring high with drugs to escape the manotany.... :( Imortality would be better if there was swords and head choping, at least some danger to face, and something out there to gain.... |

nope.. ever read that book "Tuck everlasting" after reading that I decided I would rather let my life live through and die when I am meant to die. in the book, Mr.Tuck says that living forever isn't living... it's like being a rock... I think that makes a lot of sense and I would much rather live and then die!

no i would not want to live forever.
i would not want to miss out on what's next. and i would not want to miss out on coming back as someone or something else. and it's not the fact that i would have to watch everyone around me die. because that's going to happen whether im immortal or not. who's to say that some of us aren't going to watch our kids, our spouses, and our loved ones die whether we are immortal or not?! i want to grow old. i want to experience life at all phases and all ages. |
