Nightmares
The night before last I had a dream that myself,Rob, Jaime, Cerah, my Dad and Riley(my dog) were all out in the middle of this clearing in Prince Rupert and I got shot but a hunter who had mistaken me for his prey. I could feel everything, it was amazingly real. My dad cut the bullet out of me (which had lodged itself right into my solar plexus...and yes I could feel him cutting it out of me) with his swiss army knife and then it was all "flash forward" and I was in my old highschool.
Rob and I were freaking out (sorry no...I was freaking out) because I couldn't find my locker and I had class starting in like 2 minutes. Everyone was all like "what did you do this summer?" and I told them how I'd been shot and showed them my scar. And then I woke up. It was nuts. Seriously one of the most intense dreams I've had since I stoped the patch. Then last night/this morning I had this dream that I was hanging out with Tennille, Jaime, Martin, and Rob and we found this gorgeous house. For some reason we decided to go in and make ourselves some lunch...perogies to be exact. Well the owners of the house came downstairs and started freaking out on us and then out of no where my cousin Jason comes downstairs. Somehow me being his cousin saved the day. So we agreed to leave on no hard feelings (all because I'm Jason's baby cousin) but then we decided to go back in like 40 minutes later(I dont know why) And yet again we get chased out by the parents of the guy that owned the house. So we book it down the street eventually making it into English Bay. I get into this bitch fight with some chick on the corner of Pacific and Denman and when I went to pull her hair (heheheh I'm sucha chick in my dreams), I realized they were extensions and that no matter how hard I pulled they wouldn't budge. So here's the whack part, Jose Ebert (the french hair stylist to the stars *he always wears a tacky cowboy hat and has long brown hair) came to my rescue and used the whole incident as an infomercial. Right in the middle of English Bay I'm posing for pictures with this guy and helping him sell his product by telling everyone how this chick didn't have extensions, I could've really kicked her ass (HHAHAHAHHA) Sounds alright(slighty weird) so far but here's where it turned scarey. The security guard from Le Senza (I think his name is Ryan. He's introduced himself to me many times but all I can remember is "Grande Americano") He's a big ass guy. We're talking mamoth. I ran into him and he takes Rob, Jaime and I back to his place a couple blocks away. So we're at his place and I'm on his shoulders or something and he starts telling me he thinks I'm beautiful and that he wants to take me to his bedroom. I"m all like "uh..buddy my boyfriend is _right_beside_you...sorry man..not going to happen" This angered him and he tells me how if I dont he'll kill Rob and then me. Rob leans over and whispers to me and tells me to run for the door and that he'll keep them off. I look down and all I'm wearing is my yellow winnie the pooh baby doll but I just kinda said "fuck it" and made a break for the door. I made it into this creepy courtyard that looked something like "Secret Garden" meets "Great Expectations," all overgrown and old looking. I looked around me and saw seven doors. I ran around (still in my pj's) and locked all the doors so that they couldn't find me. I missed one. They came in (Grande Americano and some of his friends) and I thought I could just reason with them and then each one of them pulls out a big ass gun, complete with silencers, and get ready to aim them at me. My parents taught me something very important when I was little. The ability to take control of your dreams. This was where I woke up. Now I've gotta go to work later and I'm actually kinda scared about seeing this guy. He does hit on me whenever he comes in, but he's also really nice and I enjoy chatting with him. I'm afraid this nightmare will impact that somehow. It's not just the fact that I'm having some slightly frightening dreams lately. It's that I'm having dreams where it _feels_ real. Everything about them. I could _feel_ myself getting shot by the hunter and the sensation of my father removing the bullet from my chest. I could _feel_ my heart racing as I bolted from his apartment and tried to find somewhere to hide. I woke up in a bath of sweat and tears this morning after seeing the guys pull guns on me and threaten to be raped or they'd kill me. I was all so incrediably real. People say that if your killed in your dreams, you actually do die in reality. So what does it mean when you have nightmares two nights in a row that involve you getting shot? Thats a horrible dream! The best thing I find when you have nightmares is having someone beside you for when you wake up. I have one particular dream that I have fairly frequently. I am in an underground mine or some kind of tunnel like that, it is really muddy and slippery and gross. Then all of a sudden it starts flooding and the cave starts to collapse, everyone else escapes but I get left behind. I try t o get out but I can't, that is when I wake up.

I didn't read that whole thing. As soon as you typed Prince Rupert, ye needn't say nadda more. Having lived there for half my life, I know the horrors of Rupert very well!
Seriously, though, I wouldn't think about the implications of your nightmare much. Like a migraine, it's all in your head. :) |

i don't think ur gonna die babe..i've dreamed of dying sooo many times..but i'm still alive..=)
..lately..i keep falling asleep in my library at school..and every dream i've had in the library has involved a sniper hiding on a top of a bookshelf or something and shooting ppl..including me..but after i get shot..i always feel like someone is tapping me on the shoulder to wake up..but when i wake up..no one's there..kinda freaky.. ugh..last night..i had a dream that i watched one of my dogs get run over by a car and his head came off...as i watched..i was so confused..i knew wut happened..but it didn't hit me..and when it did..i couldn't breathe..i woke up and couldn't breathe or sit up..it felt as if someone was squeezing my lungs and pushing me down..but after a 15 secs or so..i could get up and breathe..that was creepy... have u ever had a nightmare and woke up and thought..thank god, i got outta that one...but the next night..continued where u left off...kinda like a television show...it happens to me sometimes..and it's pretty shitty.. i hate nightmares...=( |

it's possible to take control of your dreams. the idea seems kinda far-fetched...i thought so at first, but i tried it, and it works!
at first i totally didn't believe it, but i tried drilling the idea into my head since i have nightmares on a pretty regular basis. and just the other night, someone was chasing me, and i remembered reading that i could turn and face the person and they would disappear. so i consciously convinced myself to turn around in my dream, and right at that moment, the person disappeared and i woke up. |

Like I said, the best technique I've found is constantly asking yourself when you're awake if you're awake, and devising some test (it doesn't have to be much of a test. It can be simply "Can I see a pink rabbit around here?" or something crazy like that. |

I had a dream last night and Kenny (ninewells) and Ryan (Chet) were in it. Seriously. I barely know them! Haha....okay, that's scary.
Adrienne, don't worry about it. I know the feeling, especially the day after when you have to confront the person that was the enemy in the nightmare (sometimes I'll hate a person forever until I realize my hatred is all based on the activities in my dreams and get over it). Apparently, says my bf, they mean nothing and they predict nothing. =) Oh, and don't think you're going to die, because you can kill yourself that way (psychologically). *Jen* |

then your dream catcher's probably defective!
send that shit back yo. oh.. and another fun tidbit... before like 400 AD, the word demon (or daemon, rather, but same pronouncement) meant the equivilant of guardian angel. The christians were the ones who decided they should be evil :) |

"Shot.
To dream that you are shot, and are feeling the sensations of dying, denotes that you are to meet unexpected abuse from the ill feelings of friends, but if you escape death by waking, you will be fully reconciled with them later on. To dream that a preacher shoots you, signifies that you will be annoyed by some friend advancing views condemnatory to those entertained by yourself." pulled off of: Gustavus Hindman Miller's "What's in a dream: A Scientific and Practical Interpretation of Dreams" hyperlink While I was having amazingly real visions during sleep paralysis (some which were just awful nightmares), at times I thought I was losing it, so I picked up this book which was a begining of a journey that I am still on. Lucky for you it is online for free at your disposal, so use it wisely! I was frequenting vision like dreams and even OBEs at one point, and I knew that if I didn't confront the uneasy moments I had during these times that they would be the demise of my well being during slumber. I now know how to temporaly travel and have almost perfected the art of lucid dreaming. You are your own best friend, remember that, and now I look forward to dreaming every night! I know what cha mean about feeling things in your dream. I had a dream i had to get surgery and i felt my self go under and then i woke up in my dream and then in real life, i also had another dream where i got sentinced to the electric chair and it felt so real it acually hurt! But sometimes feeling things in your dream could but a good thing *lol*

ebbomega: Oh really? And who made you the expert? Indeed, I beg to differ. Really dreams and reality are just about the two opposing states of conciousness, which don't really oppose at all. See, in the waking world, the neural system inhibits the activation of the vividness of memories, and this makes evolutionary sense. It'd be maladapted for the perceptual image of a predator to be mistaken for the memory of one, and vice versa. If the memory of a predator conjured up a perceptual image, we'd be running off to the bathroom every time we had a scary thought. So you have these serotonic neurons that inhibit halucinations, that they themselves are inhibited during REM sleep. See this allows dreams to appear real, while preventing competition from other perceptual processes. This is why dreams are mistaken for reality. To the functional system of neural activity that creates our world, there is no difference between dreaming a perception and an action, and the actual waking perception and action.
Miller has taken it one step beyond as his thesis states on the link between spiritual perceptual status as opposed to physical perceptual status, thus making it possible to interpret dreams. You should really read Miller's preface if you're still skeptic on the perception of dreams and his theory: click me to read the preface I'd read it all if I were you and had the time, but it really starts getting interesting around pg 21 and onwards. But if you have time read the whole fucking thing. Here is a diagram that illustrates the theory in this book: I must say, for a self proclaimed lucid dreamer, I would think you owe yourself atleast the time of day to look into this. They're actually bad bad nightmares. One time I had a dream (non jurassic park related) and I woke up and the person in my dream was standing right infront of me. Talk about shitting and pissing your pants. (i blinked and the person went away) |
