serious decisions

so i gotta decide very soon (tomorrow) if i want to continue this new job i kinda have...which is basicaly what i'm going to be doing for the rest of my life

i've only had 3 days of working to see if i like it or not, and so far i like it but 3 days is not much...

the only reason why i'd be chosing to go with it is because i don't know what else to do...i've already wasted 2 years in langara

i don't want to fuck up and end up hating my job to become some raging chain smoking grumpy cunt, turning to alcohol to make life bearable
i also don't wanna get into a job that has no demand, leaving me standing in line on welfare wednesday

i've been whinning all day...nobody can make this decision cept for me, and i hate it

WHAT DO I DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

If you like it then stay with it .. and then when it really starts to suck and you cant stand it anymore then find another job.
I dont see why anyone should feel trapped into staying at ajob they dont like unless they have been there for 40yrs and they are just way to old to make the change. You are neither so there is no problem.

^ yea i know!

there's a big demand now, but in a couple years when the big rush of apprentices finish their training, there's going to be too many electricians...well at least that's what i'm worried about

the waitlist is till at least 2005, and so i won't be done till at least 2009 give or take a couple years...

i don't wanna have the stress of going back to school when i'm 30, i don't wanna be in some mid life crisis going to school wiht 18 year olds......

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah :(

2009 is a year before the Olympics... who the hell do you think makes all the money when that shit comes to town? The production and construction industries. Trust me you'll have lots of work to do even if the contracts are snapped up a year or two before the Olympics tey'll always be looking for more hands.

When do I start?

haha jk

Seriously Kel, if it's not your dream job, then fuck it. Or, do it for awhile and make some bling, no one says you HAVE to finish your training, right? Right. If you decide in a year or two you want to go back to school again you'll still have two years on me...haha we can do first year courses together at 21.....wow I'm so sad.

my friend just came home from africa and seeing all her friends from home depressed and sick of school and tired of what they have been persuing has made her want to go back to traveling for awhile. and its what suits her, so i push her towards it. i am the only person i know who is happy with my school, and thats becasue its my passion. after my two years im gonna end up with a diploma, it wont get me much job wise, but i would not be happy without it. do what makes you happy now. fuck 5 years from now maybe i'll want to be a teacher, and then 10 years after that ill want to be a sales person.
just do what maeks you happy. plan fro today and tomorow, not 10 years from now.

i have no dream job..well maybe being a stylist or something useless like that

but i think i'm going to go for this electrician thing...
i'm way too picky, and if i don't go for it i'll probably end up living at home for the next 40 years contemplating different careers

woowow i'm going to be making money!!!!
and i hate working my arms out at the gym, but now i won't have to cause i'm tugging and pounding at work all day!
mmmmm now i can save up to travel, buy cool things, and fix up ma jeeepaaa and hunt!

heh...i'm kinda excited :trippin:

My friend is an electrician, finished the apprenticeship 6 or 7 years ago, but it's a kinda demanding type of job he has. Quite a lot of climbing up high on ladders and dragging cables in dusty places in chicken processing plants, lumber mills, car repair shops, factories etc - he does industrial work and some residential.

I know a few people who work in movies (some are not workin right now cuz they're low seniority & its slow) and they say a good job is the "genny op" or electric generator operator, it's a cleaner type of job and pay is great during busy periods, but the hours can be long.

My friend the electrician tried writing the movie electrician exam but he flunked it - there's a lot of special movie stuff he didn't know. But he has the basics as a regular electrician and could get into that field after some study.

^^^^ there is the key point ..... if you aren't happy with what you are doing now do you think it will change if you continue doing it? i have a passion to be a AST (automotive service technician) that is what i would like now but hey tomorrow i might want to be a professional dog walker.

i hope you make the right one for YOU

i'm rootin for ya

I think its so much harder for you to make a disition because your putting so much presure on your self? That why I took a year off and I tested a wide range of crappy jobs to get an idea of the kind of enviroment and ppl Id like to work with.

I tell ppl ive really lucked out with the career path ive gone with and how much I love it. Before I had alot of doubt about being a Teacher or SEA I didnt think it was waht I really want to do. And still I think maybe I should try other things? Maybe theres a bettter career otu there for me?

Like godessa said ppl change their careers about 7 times. Face it you gonna get board/sick of you job at some point and want to try somthing else.

My advice is make it simple and find somthing that you like and are intrested in. For me it was kids (one of the things I like and am good at). Then I looked at all the opertunities of jobs working with kids. I have a basic career now, but ive got a whole range of other jobs/careers I can branch off into witch gives me alot more freedom and choice.

BTW: I dont get this aprentice thing? Cant you take electrition corses? Maybe look at bcit? Find an other sponser aprentice guy cus i never like the sound of the one you have :/
