I am Seriously Confused and Need Some Advice & Help
Ok I know I am going to sound like a total baby but I really need to let this all go and see if anybody can help.
On Christmas night me and my family got into a huge fight over something really stupid and it resulted in a harsh beating (4 against 1) I was almost kicked out of my house by force and eventually my mom called the cops hoping they could take me away. I spend several hours talking to the cops and nothing happened. On New Years Eve I finally got the guts to pack my stuff and leave. I did it at like 9am before anybody was up. A friend (61 year old women I met off the internet) come and picked me up she and her hubby said I could stay with them for a few weeks. It's now 3 months later and I am still living with them and am collecting $435.00 from welfare. Here's the real problem: I can't seem to find a job, or a place to stay because I am 18, not finished school (2 years left to go) I have no work exp, no refs and am receiving welfare at the moment. I have to have a job by March.31st and stay where I am till the end of April or I am out.... I have no family/friends; all shelters are full and have no money to get in anywhere. Even my boyfriend can't help anymore. I am totally screwed! I got a call today from this program I signed up for back in Jan and they are now do interviews for this internship at Starbucks. Its 17 weeks of full time pay at $8.50 per hour. 7 weeks in classroom learning and 10 weeks at any Starbucks in Surrey for the remaining 10. This program is for teens in surrey how have family problems, not finished school and need work exp and a good ref. The only problem is, is that they are going to pick 10 out of the 100's that applied. There is no guarantee I will be picked and the class doesn’t start till April. I don’t know where I am going to be in the next week. **What I am really asking is... does anybody know of any jobs I could possibly apply for whether it be though your work or something you've heard about? I have nothing and finding a job on my own is obviously not working for me. I am also looking for a roommate pref in Surrey who would be willing to rent an apartment with me. Any help from anybody would be so greatly appreciated! Contact Info: *PM Me* E-mail: [email protected] MSN: [email protected] Pager: (604)-645-8444 Leave Message Thanks :047: :047: :047: |

There's a Hiring Fair going on at the YMCA Career Zone on 1260 Granville St. tomorrow from 3-6pm. London Drugs, Future Shop, Rogers Video, Vancity, RBC, Safeway, Sleep Country Canada, HMS Host, 7-Eleven, Subway, Angus/One, Banana Republic, McDonalds, PNE, Sterling Shoes, Shoe Warehouse and RMH are the places hiring.
Also look at http://jb-ge.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/ for job listings. Good luck on the Starbucks thing... either way you'll be able to make some money during training right? |

I have a friend who's uncle might be willing to help you out. He runs a packaging business and sometimes needs extra people. I'll get a hold of her. She also works at starbucks and might be able to put in a good word for you for that program (which sounds great by the way, what is it called?).

The program is Called Baristas. When I had a meeting with the ower in Jan he said that it's a 17 week program.... full time paid $8.50 an hour. There is 7 weeks of learning.. the different drinks, how to handle costomers and stuff and the other 10 weeks are in a starbucks. Once the 10 weeks is over you could be let go or you could be asked to stay. It all depends on performance. Really it's so you have work exp and a ref. The website is: http://www.pcrs.ca/barista/index.html and tomorrow at 11:30 I have an info meeting to go to for it where I can talk to the managers and give them a copy of my new resume.
cerah - May just need to look into that. Wasnt exactly looking to work in Van... Wanted to stay in Surrey Delta. I guess once you get a job you can ask for a transfer. SherBear - I have added you to my list! Glad to hear I am not the only own dealing with rough stuff these days. |

Oh and MsAttitude, if you apply there, tell them you were refered there by Steve Furtner, and employee number 4w8x. This gets you an interview faster, plus if you get hired and stay there for 3 months, I get $200. If that happens, dinner and drinks on me. That goes for anyone else thinking of applying there. |

This may not be up your alley, but the Army Reserves pays you to go through basic and supplementary training ($6000 for 2 months i believe.) You would have somewhere to live and when you came out you would have a p/t job and something employers look for on a resume. They are still taking applications until the end of march. The barracks is at 11th and arbutus. All u need is your grade 10 and to make the physical requirement which for girls is super easy.
If you get desparate, id look into this. Its what im doing, and i have a university degree. |

If you can work in the vancouver area I recommend doing promotions work. Age isn't a requirement, you get unlimited free samples, and you get paid 12$ an hour to give out free stuff.
Simply email www.inventaworld.ca with your resume, and if it helps tell them Lance sent you. hope everything works out. |

Yo. I work in the hospitality biz. By April the city will be filling w/ tourists. I recommend applying at Cactus Club and Earl's. They not only have remarkable training, but, they are famous for hiring people w/o experience. As well, I am a manager at a catering hall. Keep me posted, and, I may be able to get you work. Best o' luck.

I was told I needed to be 19 to work at both those places... Which I am not. But if you say they are known for hiring people without exp then I will for sure give it a shot.
I was actually thinking of taking this Banquet training course but it costs like $500. I would love to get into anything to do with hotels and spas etc... high demmand for them coming up in 2010. |
