I think anyone who hasn't experienced the effects of DIAGNOSED depression/mental illness either A) themselves, or B) through someone that they are close to, should just BUTT THE FUCK OUT. You don't know what you're talking about. You have NO IDEA the stress that ignorance like yours can cause to people that have a problem.

Bungoshlung, you are a perfect example of someone talking out their ass. You are a brainless little twat, and you prove it with every one of your ignorant, inane, vapid and vacuous posts.

Do us all a favor and fall off the sidewalk against the light downtown. Kthx.

^ I don't see how her post was brainless or ignorant.

She asked why so many people these days feel they are "depressed" and need drugs before they actually seek medical attention, and suggested the right way to go about it would be to talk to a professional.

How is that so wrong?

^How can people get drugs without seeing a doctor and getting a prescription? They can't.

And if there are more people that are clinically depressed these days, I think there are a couple of reasons behind it: A) The pressures that are on teens and young adults these days are greater than they've ever been. Whether it be to get into school (when there are less and less spaces, grades to get in are almost unrealistically high, and tuition is soaring), to find a job (when to get a job you need experience, and you can't get experience unless you have a job), or even just issues with their families and their other relationships; B) People just feel that they can talk about this now without being ostracized by their families, friends and employers.

It's arrogant for someone (who hasn't been affected by mental illness) to make allusions to mental illness being "all in their head", which is what I got from her post.

What I got out of her post is how young people these days often think "okay so I think I'm depressed, I should get some medication", instead of "okay so I think I'm depressed, I should go talk to someone about it".

*shrug*

Isn't this a repeating cycle that will never end? I mean...I'm sure in the 80's when it was almost mandatory to have your GED to get a decent job has some similarity as having a degree now to get the same job. I am referring to the amount of pressure/stress involved, not the level of criteria.

As for drugs related to depression... there are some alternatives that are available at drug stores now that don't need a prescription. Low dose medications. Again, like a cycle... we needed a prescription to buy Tylenol back in the day.

yo homeboy..keep in mind that it usually takes about 4-6 weeks of consistant use for ssri's to work...keep on it for that long until you decide to switch dosages/pills.

yeha man this definitely helps...when i was depressed i used to write all my feelings and thoughts down..it was really theruputic but the ebst thing for me was finding durugs that actually worked, and cutting all the excess shit in my life which i didnt need and was causing me stress.

the key to fighting depression is finding a stable balance from which you can build yourself up. well thats what worked for me atleast

read again diva.

i'm just saying ppl shouldnt rush into taking drugs.

fucktard.
there is a very clear and significant difference between normal sadness and actual depression, i know because ive experienced both.

depression is like a fuckin trap, its like you're stuck ina fuckin hole and there is absolutely no way to get out. it also feels like there is a fuckin meteor shower of seriosuly negative thoughts constyantly bombarding your mind. to the point where every thought you have is one of uselessness, sadness, anxiety and rage directed towards yourself.

being sad is normal..you get over it in a little while, depression is somehting that will drag on for months and gradually get worse.

werd..people who say shit about over using drugs are fuckin idiots. these drugs are perscription drugs for a reason, because there is an asymetry of information between health professionals and normal consumers. the average person dosnt know shit about whats good for them, thus access to powerful perscriptions drugs is limited, as is their marketing is (in canada atleast). IF a GP, who has gone through atleast 7 years of University as well as having a shit load of expereince dealing with depression (it is extremely common) diagnosises you with depression. Chances its pretty fuckin likely that they know a little bit more about the diease then some know it all fnk jack off who at best only has a highschool education.

the important thing to rmemeber about depression medication as they take awhile to have a noticiable impact, atleast a week and a half before the most intense negative feelings subside. Like all perscription medicines, it is important to complete the perscription and regularly check with your GP to see how things are going and if you need to change dosages/medication. doctors, nurses, and other health professionals know alot more then us about these things and its important to listen to their advice before you buy into whatever some asshole on fnk says about perscription meds.

I'm not too sure I trust GPs diagnosing depression. I believe that only psychiatrists should be able to prescribe and manage pharmacologic treatment in the case of depression.

Back to Bungoshlung: When people who might be dealing with mental health issues view your comments in a negative light, it leads them to second guess their feelings. Yeah, there are a lot of people on antidepressants who probably shouldn't be on them, but that's not the point of this post. I know that I no longer discuss my mental health issues with friends who hinted that my feelings were "all in my head", or couldn't possibly have been as bad as I was making them seem.

Here's a website with some info for you, winger.

Just Google "mental health forums", and you'll get lots of links to message boards where you can have discussions about what you're going through.

my mom is on antidepressants, does that allow me to speak now?

did you know you can obtain antidepressants online? theres a few questions for you to answer but i think everyone knows to select the "right" ones if they really wanted to obtain the drug.

perhaps you should find something better to say than tell everyone who has slightly differnt insights/opinions than yours to "go play it traffic". its getting old.

There are lots of things you can obtain online, that doesn't mean it's legal.
