Not as far as I know. I think the risks are about the same. And medication will always effect people differently. Like I said I'm no expert on blood clots. And I'm not aware of any of the contributing factors, that may have played a roll in this girls death.
It goes to show though, that you should always take the time to read the insert. But even though blood clots can be very unpredictable. My mom said at times she is worried for me, since I work an office job, where I sit for long hours. So if you have unsual pains where there are major veins, or extreme headaches. Maybe check with a doctor as soon as you can. :S But then again you always should in those situations. Bah! so nerve racking. Last edited by Kandyapple; Sep 26, 04 at 06:31 AM. |

Pregnant women have a higher risk of getting blood clots and strokes.
Angel: who told you that? it's not true. the morning after pill is just a higher dose of the same hormonal combination found in oral contraceptives. it doesn't cause infertility. |

It just creeps me out when I complain about a pain in my neck, and my mom starts going off about girls that have died while being on the patch. I know that it is always a risk with medication. And it's not going to happen to everyone. But I would still like to have some more information. The patch is still fairly new. And the info is almost identical to what you get with the pill. But when I start hearing about people dying on the patch, more often then the pill. It makes me wonder if it is stronger, or a higher risk due to dosage or whatnot. I think though, that I will be going in for a check up soon. And at that time I will try to get additional info out of the doctor. I would like to be more informed. no matter what form of hormonal birth control you choose, there are going to be horror stories
and smokers on hormonal birth control have an increased bunch of crap to worry about blood clots are a factor, and if i'm not mistaken there are certain groups pf women who are high risk for them, those being over 35, smoking and over weight (and medical history) but don't be mislead, when you are fucking around with your cycle there are always risk, pregnancy, death and of course weight gain! treat your body with respect, keep it healthy and don't worry too much about the 1/ 1000 (or whatever the number is) that experience the extreme complications that lead to death nothing is a 100% in prevention of babies and if that's a risk you are willing to take, i think the blood clot one is one you can afford as well ps- half a year of the patch for me and still pleased |

Yah I guess I shouldnt be worrying so much about it. It was just so out of the blue. And I got freeked out because I was already having pains from being sick. lol it didn't help that I was hyped up on meds. It probably made me a little more paranoid.
She made it seem so extreme in the moment. |
