Tip: Don't live with your significant other.... or you end up having to pay 300 dollars each to break a 1 year lease you signed as "happy little love birds". Yes, I'm bitter and cranky. Now i have a "roomate" until January 1st. *grumbles more* |

look for storage like bathroom cupboards and hall closets...i would kill for a hall closet right now. water pressure is more important than you realize. don't sign any lease longer than 6mos if you're moving in with your hunny (see above post.) who controls heat in the house? it's freezing in basement suites during the winter.
those are pretty much the most important ones. oh and never go for the first place you look at, and listen for hardwood floors upstairs - i can hear the lady above me fart in the bathtub! |

dont sign a lease at all. seriously. ask if theres any little kids living in the house. definately find out about the heat control. closets are a must, or at least make sure they dont mind if you nail holes in the walls for shelving. ask about holes in the walls in general. if theyre anal about that, they'll be anal about everything, and thats not a good sign. find out if they prefer cash or cheques. get receipts for everything. ask about what they make you sign. make sure theres enough room for your couches, and a big enough bedroom for your bed. make sure the fridge isnt shitty. ask about laundry. in house laundry rocks. honestly, dont necessarily look for the older places, just because you think they'll be cheaper. i found a 2 bedroom, brand new place for $800, in an awesome location in poco. now i live in a 1 bedroom, again, brand new, for $500, which is pretty close to standard pricing, in another awesome spot in fleetwood. do not appear to be too interested in anything, until youve checked out at least 5 places.
there. thats my advice. :D |

^^^ *hold me* lol
it's actually going better than i thought, it's funny we're getting along waaaay better as roomates and best friends, than we ever ever did dating. It just sucks that I'm sucked into a lease and we can't afford to move until after christmas. It's just hard to move on with your life, when you're both like RIGHT in eachother's faces lol. How the hell am I supposed to bring all my boyfriends home after raves now?!? *sobbs uncontrollably* |

Make sure you can handle being around this person for long periods of time.. cause when rainin days come.. most likely you'll both be home.
ummm....the 2 of you should have a pre-chat about how you both think things are gonna be like and work out everything if there is a problem.. but if your both the type to share everything in the common areas... then thee shouldnt be a problem... I dont know how you are about cleaning.. you knwo I'm a freak about it.. but you may wanna arrange soemthing.. or tell him.. the enviroment you like to live in... If your signing a lease... MAKE SURE you can trust your friends.. cause last thing you want is some one running out on you.. and you getting stuck with a lease.. ummmm.... there a bunch of other things too.. but.. if anything.. have your back covered just in case.. cause you never know what ppl are capable of doing.. also.. you wanna make sure your comfortable with whom your living with so ou dont feel comfortable and after while thinkin.. 'why am I paying rent for some where I dont feel comfortable'.. you know? |
