does anyone know the island very well?
so for my one year with my gf, i wanted to take her away from our town, cause thats what we always both want, to get away from it all for a bit. i know the island isnt the furthest or most romantic, but itll probably be the only option and hopefully i can get something done that i can afford.
anyhow, i was wondering if anyone knew of some good places i could go to other than the big cities, i was thinking of tofino, or something. but are there like any big parks the equivelent to say buntzen lake or alouette over there? that kinda idea? or anything that would be 'romantic' in a sense, becuase i dont want to just hop on the ferry and drive around aimlesley for a weekend ya know? i wouldnt mind booking a bed/braekfast type place were ever. k ive rambled alot, if you get what im saying respond, if not, thanks for taking the time to read this... |

go to mackenzie beach. its just outside tofino. and youll basically have a huuuuggge beach to youselves to explore on.
they have a beautiful best western right on the beach, seriously, your patio door will open basically onto the beach. and its extremely reasonable. plus the restaurant has wicked food. i think it was a $8 taxi ride into tofino from the hotel. me and the boyfriend went there in the summer for a couple of days for a get away adventure and i absolutely loved every mintue of it. i highly recommend it. if youre willing to fork out the extra cash theres also little bungalos on the beach. and in the best western you can get hotel rooms with fire places. mackenzie beach is where its at. and if you are the outdoors type a wack load of hikes start from the beach, from beginner level to advanced. |

i think all we did to find it was googled mackenzie beach and BAM we got all the sites for the places to stay.
seriously, its beautiful and worth it. it rained like 90% of the time we were there and it was still beautiful and wonderful and i wanna go back so bad. |

If you and your girlfriend are a bit more adventurous/camping-like, I recommend either wandering around Saltspring Island or hit up the West Coast Trail and go to Sombrio beach. Used to be a big hippie-haven, has since been evacuated and turned into a tourist trap. I hear though if you wander around there are some cool nooks and waterfalls around there.
Again, only if you're adventurous. I also know of some cool camping spots around Duncan, but a lot of those would require me to show you where to go. And a lot of them aren't really choice this time of year. |

-if your looking for romancy, go for dinner at the pointe restaurant at the wickanninish. it can get a bit pricy, but well worth it. my boi took me there for a night at the resort. i soooo put out..........there's a view of a beach at the restaurant, so u can go for a walk after dinner...awwe. -mackenzie beach was already mentioned -hmmm.......there are some nice trails all over the place there. u should have no problem finding any. just ask ppl......everybody there is really nice. i spent my spring and summer there ......... it's good times. |
