Putting color in ones wardrobe
HOW>!$?#$^
So as of lately.. I've been told all I wear is black. Which is pretty much true. I'm trying to stop it. I'm REALLY trying to stay away from buying black clothing.. but no matter what I do... I always end up with black. This has been goin on for the past 5 months. I went looking @ shirts and Jackets today... If i still wanted to buy black... I would have came home with a lot. But no.. I ended up walking out with just a burgandy jacket and black belt[it's a belt.. its acceptable!]. Ugh, I need to not dress like death anymore! |

I wear lots of black too, and I can understand people who do. It's a practicality issue, it's easy to match clothes with, you can get it dirty and no one will REALLY know, and it's work appropriate. I absolutely love color, but my work gives us free clothes so I have to wear black most of the time. We're allowed to get color but I never get tired of black as opposed to colors.
This season is an awesome time to experiment with colors. I notice that all stores are really getting into color this spring, and the colors are beautiful. |

start with an accesory. a nice splash of colour will look good with a basic outfit.
work from there. if you wanna be safe have one bold item and be completely understated otherwise. remember that going overboard will make you look like a circus clown. get more shoes. |
|

...definately get more shoes.
i have the most colorful wardrobe.. and i have probs toning it down and not be too "circus like". my own rule that i follow is to wear 1-2 COLORS and go crazy matchin it with blacks/whites. always works.. i duno i get pretty color ambitious sometimes and match from my hair elastic down to wristband/socks/shoes.. gets crazy. splashes of a bright color is always nice in an outfit. i believe that colors are just so much more fun than shades/tints.. adds a lot more personality to a person and can make someone shine a lot more.. by shining i dont mean wearing yellow, shining = having confidence in what you're wearing and others can see that. jovi ive seen u in ure pink tank.. color looks good on you =) |

I have the opposite problem J'nette! I have a colour and matching problem. Much like Bev said, I have a colour theme of the day (usualy 1-2 colours) and everything matches. Eye make-up (subtle still), hair tie, accessories like watch, earrings etc. Usually my bra and underwear too. Haha. Its a curse really.
If you're looking to intro colour to your wardrobe (some of this has been said) try accessories that are colourful, like earrings, purses/bags, watches, scarves, belts, broaches/pins, hats etc. Also, shoes. Mmm shoes... If you're accessories match and are coloured then it won't seem like you're wearing all black. Ooh and bright/coloured flipflops for summer are always fab. Layering works well too, like having a v-neck top with something underneath, or having a long tank that hangs down below. |

i have a layering problem. i layer WAY TOO MUCH.. wont be surprised if i start wearing 2 pairs of pants out. but its just so fantab to have bold colors peeking out.. ex. bright colored racer back tank with a white scoop neck tee. so pretty.

haha, yeah, it's that way with pink for me. It's rare for me to not be wearing at least one thing that is pink. I think I'm just exploding because I was a real tomboy growing up and then at about 18 I was like 'omg I'm a girl!' so I went a little crazy ;) |

jovi i can't picture you in bright colors, tho you did look cute in your younger days with the bright blue and yellow. buy what you like, if i were you i'd go for the neutral darker colors. chocolate brown, olive green, tans, white and black.
i don't like outfit rules, imo everything goes as long as you can dig it. clothes is clothes, who cares bout color. when i buy bright colors i'd wear it maybe a month tops before it's in the back of my closet. bright colors are in high rotation in my closet and it's just not economical for me, i'd rather get tamer colored clothes with crazy textures that i'd be able too wear long term. i got this crazy knee length, tiered, lace, puffy white skirt i've been rockin' lately, i love it. i was close too returning it but i like clothing challenges, incorporating something that isn't your style and making it work. |

if someone hasnt mentioned it already:
ACCESSORIZE!get colored accessories, and you can still rock black...just wear like green shoes,or a pink scarf or something. I wear alot of black myself, but over the past year ive been slowly but surely throwing in dashes of color here and there. So ya,go buy a truck load of shoes, handbags, hats, scarves, jewellery etc...and you will b e good. |
|
|||
accesorizing is too easy and kinda boring imo, it just doesn't make up for color.
jovi, the key is value fucking village ;) you should be able too make some good finds out in the boonie locations. buy everything that catches your eye, don't put too much thought into it, come home co ordinate an outfit and if it doesn't work just throw it away. it'll give you a good idea of a look that works for you then you can go from there! |

Yeah.. I really like earth tones, I have a few things that are those colors, and I'm sure you've seen, I just don't wear them that much. Simply because I dont have much that goes with them, unless I wear a black shirt. Quote:
I bought a pair of red Dickies awhile back for 10 bucks.. I thought what the heck. I've worn them once. They're just too bright. Sorta.. I uno. So I'll stay away from stuff like that, tho I'll rock a red shirt any day! Quote:

Plus I dont think anyone that knows me.. could see me using a purse... they'd probably laugh. Quote:
