i disagree with this, ive been spinning for a few years now and have played at many raves and i spin the absolute hardest tekk and dnb there is, i garuntee i could spin at a party in van and there wouldnt be anyone who knows the name of the tracks i spinn during my tekk set and for 99% of my dnb set. And what happens is some people leave cause they dont like shit that hard, but people are always gona leave not everyone likes house music or trance or dnb so dont even worry about that shit, and there will always be people who do like it, speically if its a phat change from the same shit there hearing ever single day. Which is good cuase it will start up a little following of people that like it, keep spinning at parties and you ll gain your own fans that love your shit. Not being from van and going down there and seeing 1 great dj for every 10 terrible ones was sad, all playing the exact same shit, if your just in it to have fun and love doing it cause you like hearing ur tracks on a huge system then fuck that playing crownpleasing shit and spin what you want too. sidenote,no matter what you decide to spinn there will always be places and people that will love your style you just have to find them. |

Yes, it's good to mix it up, but I hate the idea of filler tracks. Yeah, you can bring the set up and down, but that doesn't mean you have to play music nobody's going to dance to. Quote:

^^ welcome to vancouver.... unfortunantly thats all it is all top 40. I'm not going to name the dj but I heard a set once at a venue all all the tracks were back to back ferry corsten and armin van buuren tracks. The dj thought he was some hot shot putting his hands in the air at climaxes and shit. Was the gayest of the gay I've ever seen.

If you want to be a famous rave DJ, the first thing you have to do is get yourself a crew to hype you up. Y'know, the kind of posse that will come to every single one of your events and support you. Promoters love having people come to their events, and if you can guarantee extra ticket sales, go for it. This is one of the reasons you see so many of the same names at so many of the parties: they draw a guaranteed crowd of friends and associates.
The next thing you need to do is get yourself an excellent PR agent. It doesn't matter how good or bad you can spin or how good or bad your track selection is. An excellent PR agent will get you further than any talent will. The third and final thing you have to do is get yourself a big rock. The big rock has been the most useful tool known to mankind since the days we first developed tools, and is still an incredibly useful tool. You may find yourself in a sticky prediciment, like, say, fugly fan-girls hounding you. Use the big rock to fend them off. Or, lets say you are detained at customs for trying to bring tons of vinyl into another country (no wonder more DJs are switching to CDs). Use the big rock to break out of there! |

once you get decks, about 50-80 records and can somewhat mix, you'll have no problem getting a gig at a rave as long as you get out there and make some friends with promoters and dj's who can hook you up with contacts.
but no one will care who you are for a while and you'll be playing timeslots where the venues are empty... and on shitty sound systems most of the time. house parties are great places to practice, get some groupies, and learn how to work the place. to get the real rave dj treatment of a big crowd, bumpin sound and dope timeslot, you gotta be good. you gotta establish yourself as a name for a decent amount of time, gotta have those die hard friends/fans who'll cheer you on, but in the end, they have to come to you because you're good, not because you forced them to come. just do your thing like a natural, have some fun, do not let the fame get to your head cuz you'll get fixated and go down. getting up there and playing a set that you're really into with the crowd feeling it with you is pretty nuts! better than any drug i've ever tried =) |

I guarentee that 90% of your tracks will probably be IDd by the dnb scene here. |
