Done School, Now what???
So i took my GED exam last month, and i passed :)
Now i can't decide what the fuck i want to do with it. It's eating me up ! I didn't realize how hard it was going to be to choose a career path ... a year ago i thought i had all the answers. no such luck these days. There are just so many things i'd like to try but I'm afraid they wont work out for me in some way..... Basically what i want in life is a tolerable occupation that requires creativity, and pays well enough for me to live comfortably ( starving artist? no thanks). Is that so much to ask? :P At the moment I'm interested in going into Recording arts Creative Writing or something in the Broadcast and Media Communications field. and even Technical Writing...maybe ..i dont know! -but I am open to all suggestions :) I'd really appreciate any helpful advice on this subject. Im so stressing out lately over this shit. I don't want to lose my soul to a corporation and be a lifeless misery, but i also don't want to be broke. This is one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make. anyone? |

Check out some broadcast companies to see if they are hiring. Or, you could go post-secondary @ Vancouver Film School or CDIS. There are some other tech schools but employers in some of those fields look for specialized training in addition to grad.

I recommend going to a local college and taking one of their aptitude tests. I've had a couple of friends who had NO IDEA what they wanted to do go and take these tests and it gave them a few ideas to possibly focus on.
If you want to be a writer there are lots of great programs out there! |

or broadcast media is pretty exciting, but cutthroat, but then again with the direction the journalism is taking, alotta people in mainstream media might just happen to get their throats cut from angry citizens tired of getting bullshitted 24/7! nah, but seriously alternative media sources are growing stronger everyday! BCIT has a strong program, and I know Ryerson back east does too, but its $$$$$$ or technical writing eh? That might be an option, and perhaps if your a pretty creative, and dynamic writer you can get into some graphic design firms doing contract work on the side, or to support another part time job? or go travelling. Do some relief work. get lost for awhile. But use your "free time" effectively aka, EXPLORE your options. Im not sure how old you are, but dont get caught into the i need a car, house, bla bla to be happy. Your experiences, and your travels and your love affiars make you happy! Cars, houses, picket fences, ikea furniture etc etc aint going no where, theyll be still here when you decide to go status quo. vocational exploration is actaully pretty helpful for some cats. Tests like myer-briggs and such might help ya out? There alotta related resources! Id also suggest NOT to join the military. :) |
