I just got hired by Starbucks and I am having second thoughts about working there... I currently work in retail which is okay, I have good hours(not too early or late) ,its slack and i learn alot...I jus kinda applied at Starbucks for fun....Im not sure what to do..
Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about working at starbucks them- selves or from people they know? (I dont know why im thinking so hard about this...its just a job for while im at school not the rest of my life.....) holla back pleaze!!! |

keep both jobs
its not a bad job, the pay sucks, but its cause min wage is shit here. but its not bad....maybe like 3 shifts a week is good. and as long as you have a good staffed store its all good. but over all they aren't a bad company to work for. .dalyn. |

I worked there for a year - exactly a year. And that was all i could handle :)
4 months as a Barista, then promoted to Shift Supervisor, lasted for about 8 months doing that - got sick of being the bitch that had to either open or close all the time - didn't get weekends off - and said screw it. I worked at Davie street and Cardero Starbucks, then over at Robson Street and Bidwell. Both good stores, good people to work with - but I notice a HUGE corruption within the management/Starbucks corporate relationships - Starbucks tries to tell you how much they "really do care about you, the worker, a partner..." and so forth.... but truly, you are disposable to them, if you have a valid concern or complaint about corruption/management in your store, safety and security issues, or sanitary concerns - they don't respond. That was the straw that broke the camel's back for me... I called the FAST desk on 4 occasions to report BLACK MOULD growing under the sanitizer that was LEAKING for months on end. It was making everyone in the store sick, and myself especially (running a huge fever at work, headaches, nausea, ect.) It took them 3 months before they even sent anyone to LOOK at it. Problem still wasn't fixed when I quit - apparently they still haven't done a thing. Yah, Starbucks is okay, but only if you're in management/corporate making 50,000 - 100,000 a year. Good luck! |

everyone has a different opinion on it but i've known a few people that have worked there and all of them loved it(although they're all coffe freaks :)) |

I worked for the buck for about 3 1/2 years and loved it.
I worked for the downtown store and then to a smaller community store when I moved back to the North Shore. I still miss my benefits package...it was the best of anywhere I've ever worked Not to mention the free pound of coffee or box of tea a week!! |

8.55 an hour starting wage, if you become a shift supervisor it's $9.90 an hour, every 3 months you get a raise of 15-30 cents depending on how your review goes (every employee has a 3 month review) :)
I suggest applying to a community store - you get a good customer base and you get to know your customers really really well... i made alot of friends working at the one on Davie - customers and staff. :) |

Awwww, i'm over it ;)
It's really great for some, but it's really hard to move up in the company, because you can never really make over $10 an hour, unless you become an assistant or store manager, which takes at least 3 years of service to the company to move up to that point - that was too long for me! I couldn't afford to live off my Starbucks paycheques! No shopping makes Missy sad! But now that I quit, I'm working a job that pays me double what i was makin' at the 'Bucks, lol. Helloooooo shoppin' ;) But give the company a shot if you're interested - they train you really really well, and once you get the hang of it, you know 87 drink recipies and 24 types of coffee beans and tea within 2 weeks... haha! *overload* Good luck and take care!! <3 |
