June 16th - BOUNCE (Kelowna)
Saturday June 16 2007
--BOUNCE!-- ->hosted by jgirl&manousos, lola&ndt, tsa, & the o-some rutebega team<- 9PM - 5AM | 2728a Pandosy St Admission: $5 before 11PM | $10after --AreaOne-- DJ Soo Vancouver BC (of Wood&Soo) [1.30AM - 3AM] Classically trained at a young age, Terence Tso (aka DJ Soo or DJ Something Or Other) has been involved in music the majority of his life. DJ Soo encountered the art of DJing almost by accident when stumbling upon a performance by the legendary DJ Q-bert at his college many years ago. Mesmerized by the (then) burgeoning scene of turntablism, Soo began seeking out turntable-related artists. It was only a matter of time before he discovered the art of the mix DJ and electronic music. After years of being a listener, appreciator, and partier that DJ Soo decided to take the next step and actively pursue the craft of DJing. Beginning with his first loves of hiphop beats and drum n bass, DJ Soo eventually decided to eschew traditional genre lines and follow in the footsteps of some of his personal heroes such Z-Trip and Dj P, by mixing anything and everything together in a cohesive style. Fast rising in popularity as one of Vancouver's best eclectic DJs, Soo has taken to bringing the funk - regardless of which genre the funk belongs - to the dancefloor. Although he has garnered the dubious distinction of being known as a "mash-up" dj, Soo prefers to consider himself as a dj of great music communicated via the art of mixing. DJ Soo had long collaborated with DJ Wood on various club nights and performances especially in the Vancouver drum n bass scene. As both Wood and Soo began veering towards more eclectic beats, it became a natural progression to collaborate and perform together on 4 turntables. It wasn't until January of 2005 that Wood n Soo exploded onto the scene with their now-legendary mixtape Mangladeshin' (right click to download): a 4-turntable, 80-minute odyssey mixed live with 79 individual records. Comprised of diverse beats from numerous genres, exclusive and unlikely blends, Mangladeshin' maintains a cohesive flow that would keep even the most jaded of partiers firmly entrenched on the dancefloor. With fans of the mixtape spanning the farthest reaches of the globe, Soo alongside DJ Wood is poised to take their borderless musical vision to the next level. Socool Vancouver BC - (nwdnb's best newcomer DJ 2006 - Shadow Jugglers) [12AM - 1.30AM] Emily Sobool aka Dj Socool used to listen to music on her headphones and fantasize about sharing it with others. Sometimes, it involved hijacking radio stations, other times it involved guerilla attacks on coffee shops. But most recently, it has centered on the commandeering of turntables in order to bring the message to the dance floors. With the aid of the superstar DJ Soo, Socool has found herself descending into the mad depths of vinyl addiction. While her primary love is playin' in da jungle, she doesn't like to limit herself to just one genre: her New Year's Eve 2006 downtempo set featuring the likes of Lou Reed, U.N.K.L.E. & and Aphex Twin is widely regarded as "enigmatically eclectic." Speaking of hijacking radio stations, Socool has been holding it down as one of the residents of the Shadow Jugglers Saturday night radio show on CITR 101.9FM (7-9pm, pst) / Welcome to CiTR Radio. The SJ Crew (MP, Bias, Soo & Socool) like to mix it up live on air, playing pretty much whatever is moving them at the moment - from Jungle to reggae, dubstep to downtempo, hip hop to funk, and more. Socool is all about embracing that which is unique, and isn't afraid to take risks in her music. She doesn't play just one genre or represent just one sound, so you never really know what you're going to get. Sometimes, I think even she might not know. In any case, so far it seems to be working, as Socool was recently voted Best Newcomer DJ from the NWDNB.BC.CA community. DJing has led to producing original music, as it often does. And let me tell you, it is very much true that she enjoys writing songs and having them come to life. -and locals- STICKYBUDS Glitch'n'Breaks'n'shit Higher Ground [3AM - 4.20AM] NORADAWN & LOLA Multi-faceted Drum & Bass [9PM - 12AM] --AreaTwo-- -BREO- Electro Breaks [9PM-10PM] -STEWART- Breaks/House [10PM-11PM] -DENE- Electro House [11PM-12AM] -DARIN- HHouse [12AM-1AM] -CRAIG- Breaks [1AM-2AM] -HAPPY MIKE- Breaks [2AM-3AM] -EVAN- Techno [3AM-4AM] -SPILLY RICH- Drum&bass[4AM-5AM] Read the fine print ---> Bounce! | 2 rooms! | Sat Jun16 | 9PM - 5AM | 2728a Pandosy St | 19+ w/ID | BYOB - no glass | Door closed at 1.30AM | No in & outs | Happy Bday T!!! :D Last edited by dj_soo; Jun 09, 07 at 02:38 PM. |
