Renowned globetrotting DJ, broadcaster and tastemaker, Gilles Peterson, joins forces with award-winning Cuban jazz pianist, Roberto Fonseca, up-and-coming talents from Havana to perform a spectacular show at The Great Hall (1087 Queen St. West). Show starts at 10 p.m.

It has been Havana Cultura, an ambitious project focusing on contemporary urban Cuba, sponsored by Havana Club, that has had the DJ most fired up of late. Coinciding with the 50th Anniversary of the Revolution and the easing of embargoes on Cuba Gilles visited Havana in June 2009 to record a stunning set of recordings at the legendary Egrem Studios in conjunction with young, virtuoso, pianist and arranger Roberto Fonseca together with a host of young Cuban artists including Ogguere, Obsesión and Danay. Of the older generation, it’s only the mighty Mayra Caridad Valdes, sister of piano legend Chucho, that makes an appearance in the mix. A second volume of awesome club remixes by the likes of Carl Cox, 4hero, MJ Cole, Seiji, Louie Vega and Philippe Cohen Solal from Gotan Project has just dropped to widespread critical acclaim.

GP continues to be a breath of fresh air on the dance floors of the world playing a unique selection of music that is rarely heard elsewhere.
