[8.1.3][SEA] Teknofunk presents Bryan Zentz

August 1st, 2003
teknofunk presents

Bryan Zentz aka Barada
Intec Records
www.santinichicago.com
Norfork, WV

Bryan Zentz (aka Barada, Faculty X, Bryan Never) is known as The Professor amongst the Carl Cox's Intec posse, a thoughtful individual who takes an intelligent approach to his music. A skilled musician who takes pride in writing rather than sampling the vast majority of his music he leaves many others behind with the breadth of his versatility whether it's techno, house, electro, ambient or industrial. Bryan's first release on Intec was the Skufftones 1.0 EP which included the stunning "Algebra", a real techno disco workout that blew up for a variety of DJ's such as Danny Tenaglia, Derrick May and Slam. His current release "Watch The Sun" is destined for greater things as he blends Latino piano with slap bass, showing why he's a true original in the techno scene.
Taken in by hip-hop, punk, graffiti, design, and different forms of electronic music, this Virginian has lived a creative youth. From playing in bands and being surrounded by a strong musical family (his father still performs), his ears are tuned when it comes to hearing an original sound. From an early love with hip-hop and house music, he found other roots of electronic music as influence. Devo, Kraftwerk, Inner City, Cabaret Voltaire, Skinny Puppy, Eric B & Rakim, Basic Channel, Rob Hood, and Jeff Mills - they've all held Bryan's ears closely at one time or another.Bryan first made his name in electronic music as Barada (the name was taken from a Star Wars character) on Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva's legendary Definitive label with now classic releases such as "Medicine Drum" and "Glue". After a string of singles on labels like Experimental, Bush and Clashbackk among others, the time came for a full length Barada album "Strategies for a Deeper Design" released through Definitive and Virgin Canada. And it was that rare thing, a house album that told a story.

Bryan is one of the few 'performing' artists of the house/techno genre and boasts one the meanest live sets in dance music that has rocked The End in London, Bugged Out! in Manchester, Florida135 in Barcelona, Twilo in NYC and The Arches in Glasgow.

Somewhat of a studio workaholic his unrelenting output has lead to the release of high quality gems on labels such as Zozan Music, Low Pressings, Primate, Tronic, Electrix and Superbra to name a few. He has now turned his focus on to his artist album on Intec due in early 2002 which will be followed by an extensive world tour. Expect the unexpected!

His current single "D-Clash" of his full length release is regarded as one of the best singles of the year, it appears along side his other new intec single on Carl Cox's "Live at Area 2" cd. The sound harks back to another era in electronica and yet the production standard is utterly up to date. Sporting old school Yamaha keys, driving bass and soaring strings this release can be truly described as one that defines “emotional techno”. It has been kept under wraps by Intec for some time as Bryan completed his album and was previously only heard on DJ C1’s “Shifting Gears” mix cd. Ultra limited copies also reached Pete Tong, Carl Cox, Adam Beyer, Umek, Teisto, Marco Carola, Chris Liebing and Slam all of whom have been raving about this record.

David Michael
Teknofunk, Medasu, www.metatrackstudios.com
www.teknofunk.com
D.C.\VA

David Michael has been a great influence on the Seattle and PDX scenes for the past few years, dropping the funky grooves that will lift you up and take you higher. Playing shows in the Northwest for the past 5 years he has played with DJ's such as Paul Okenfold, Seb Fountain, Dj Dan, David Garcia, Bad Boy Bill, Christain Smith, Feelgood, Josh Wink...just to name a few. David was one of the hardest working DJs in the northwest. Playing at least 2 shows a week and over 150 events in 2001 and 2002, David Michael is a force to be reckoned with on the decks. Having just moved to back to Virginia and spreading his funky sound to the East side you can catch David playing shows from VA Beach to Richmond to New York.

Now as an artist with Medasu, David will show that he has taken house music creation to another level in 2003, releasing solid tracks such as "Rock the Nightclub" with Woodrow Low as Emerald City Jaywalkers, his first release on Medasu, due out in May.

"Rock the Nightclub"
"Emerald City Jaywalkers (David Michael + Woodrow Low)- Rok Tha NightKlub
With David Michael's Dubslam Remix on the B-Side"

* Charles Feelgood played it the same day he recieved it at WETGROOVES and the following day LEVEL @ the Winter Music Conference 2003 in Miami, FL. And he's still playing it...

"Music is the Answer"
*Watch for this totally remixed version of Danny Tenaglia's famous track, due out by the end of summer 2003. Here at Medasu we can hardly contain the excitement of this release, you'll know too when you here it.

Jakub

Jakub is known for his funky style in what ever genre he plays, but it is his mixing that sets him apart from the rest. He clearly displayed his talent in his latest demo release, tekno .001, which showcased his long mixing skills and the ability to use multiple records to create textures. His keen sense of rhythm and musical knowledge give him an edge in selecting tracks that rock the floors. Now working as both a dj and a producer, Jakub has taken the next step and will be releasing a song on a various artist 12” on teknofunk records due out in the summer ’03.
