Element Fridays presents...
ASHLEY CASSELLE - Global Underground | UK Ashley Casselle sprang into action in the early nineties with singles and remixes as Daydreemer, recording and remixing for labels such as Guerilla and Brute which led to remixes for DMC such as the balearic breakbeat sounds of Chris Issac's Wicked Game. Around this time fellow Hastings homeboy John Digweed offered him a gig in the alternative room at Bedrock, which gave Ashley the chance to play anything from dub, funk, soundtracks, house and breakbeats, this led to gigs on Sasha and Digweed's Northern Exposure tours and regular appearances at Bedrock for the next few years. A residency at Stuart Patterson's deep house club Rivera followed which is where Ashley developed his dancefloor drive and built his groove awareness. At around this time his productions as Ashtrax were signed to Deviant Records where his remix of Paul van Dyk's 'For an Angel' became a dubby breakbeat classic. After Paul Van Dyk invited Ashley to play in Berlin and at Gatecrasher, Casselle was granted a residency at the Sheffield club, his long twisting grooveathon sets being the ideal start to the night for the Northern colorful clubbers, he then began touring with the Global Soundsystem playing everywhere from China to Brazil. He now plays regularly, holding down regular appearances at clubs such as London's Heaven and The Cross, as well as DJing for his favorite international clubs like Giant in Los Angeles, Spundae in San Francisco and Colors in Glasgow and playing at his favorites such as Underlounge in Osaka and Global Underground parties in Singapore as well as his new residency at Sheffield's Bed in England, he manages to blend funky house with breaks and techno progressively in his unique and stimulating style, his Deviations and Response mix compilations, recent Essential Mix and of course work as Ashtrax have helped him foster a loyal following. This native Bolivian DJ, turned DC local, has been playing in our nation's capital for the past few years and is rapidly climbing the ranks of local DJs. Maybe you have heard one of his deep progressive house tracks with twisted tribal beats or perhaps you have heard him spin trance and World Beat melodies. However, if this is your first introduction, be sure to remember the name, as "DJ Glück" wants to become a known musical disciple that eagerly preaches his style and the music he loves all over the world. Growing up in Cochabamba, Bolivia, he listened to plenty of new wave music like Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Depeche Mode and, also in South America, he was introduced to the emerging principles of techno. However, it was not until he found progressive house and trance raging through the club scene in the U.S. that his music interest catapulted to a higher level. His turning point was in 2001 when he was invited to guest DJ at one of the most important and largest rave events back in his native Bolivia. It was there, seeing all of the people jumping, clapping, and screaming when he hit the turntables with his new sounds that was undoubtedly the best experience and the turning point in his DJ career. "I was the beat keeper for the night and the crowd followed my lead..." Back in the U.S. his talents and musical styles started scoring gigs at Club Home, Café Citron, Gua-rapo, Acropolis, Café Sole, Havana Breeze, Club Deadalus, Agua Ardiente, Anzu and Gazuza among others. His most premier project Club 5, one of DC's unique and most chic club/lounge attractions.
