Spread word of this far and wide! : : : Performance Art By : : : - PURE CIRKUS - Pure Cirkus has been described as the "Modern CirKus". With a focus upon corporeal storytelling through the combination of live performances merging elements of street performances, theatre, circus, opera, tribal and industrial, with body modification and fire manipulation. Along with its stunning costumes, height-defying stilt walkers and aerialists, illusionists, comical clowns, jaw dropping acts of demented bravery by the geeks, freaks and acrobatsthe clash of both the macabre and mystical side of the three ring circus is brought to life through the human body in its Purest form. - WOMANIPURA - Womanipura is a fire dancing troupe that bases their dance philosophy on an organic flow between the dancers and the flames. Consisting of 3 women, Womanipura derived their name from combining the words "woman" and "manipura." Manipura is the Sanskrit name for the Solar Plexus Chakra. Manipura represents energy and vitality, and is associated with the element of Fire and the courage to take risks. It is about the power to be a unique individual while celebrating one's continuing connection with all of humanity. The members of Womanipura approach their fire dancing with this in mind. Using elements of dance, yoga, capoeira, contact dance and improv, each is able to contribute their own style, creating an awe-inspiring show of sisterhood and flames. - SPINERGY - Spinergy is a group of professional performers who specialize in the creative manipulation of fire and the norms of human performance. This is done by mixing circus arts, modern and traditional dance styles, complex and unique choreography, rich and dramatic theatrics, martial arts, and more. They create visual spectacles that have delighted audiences the world over. - and MORE TBA! : : : Musical Performance By : : : - BARRY CURTIS TRIO - Famous for the Kingsmen song "Louie Louie" Barry is no stranger to controversy. Going all the way to the Supreme Court to defend the lyrics of that song, it has become a cornerstone case in musicians' 1st Amendment Rights, and a prime example of the demonetization of youth culture due to baseless assumptions. Apart from involvement with the Kingsmen, Barry has had a long and distinguished career in the Seattle music community. This includes many guest appearances with Jr. Cadillac and a two-year stint with Sweet Talkin' Jones. Eventually, the Kingsmen reactivated and have since performed throughout America. After recording in LosAngeles, he then returned to Seattle and co-founded Herb and The Spices, and then Freddie and the Screamers, featuring past-Kingsmen vocalist, Fred Dennis along with Sonics bassist and guitarist, Andy and Larry Parypa, and The Dynamics drummer, Ron Woods. He has guest-performed with a number of other notable Northwest bands including The Viceroys, Merrilee Rush, and The Wailers. Currently, he is a member of the Daily Flash, Los Orchids, Hoodoo Johnson, and the Barry Curtis Trio. - VENETIAN SNARES - Known for making experimental IDM, breakcore and glitchcore in non-4/4 time signatures (mostly in 7/4) and for his prolific recordings, having released records on the History of the Future, Isolate/DySLeXiC ResPonSe, Addict, Zod, Distort, Sublight, Low-Res, Planet Mu and Hymen record labels. Musical influences include funk, free jazz, metal, gabba and symphonies. Reactions to Venetian Snares' music are diverse; it proves too erratic for the general public and is very popular within the global breakbeat/hardcore scene. His style is critically acclaimed, notably by the late british radio disc jockey John Peel. Much of his work seems reactionary to the often repetitive, confined, and streamlined tendencies of rave music and drum and bass in much the same way that punk rock challenged established music trends in the aftermath of arena rock. Past interviews with him have pointed out his early interest in punk rock and death metal, and he draws from these genres heavily in his approach to music. - CALVIN JOHNSON - A guitarist, vocalist and founding member of the bands Cool Rays, Beat Happening, The Go Team, Dub Narcotic Sound System, and The Halo Benders. He is known for his uniquely deep, droning singing voice, and his crucial role in the birth of the modern indie movement. Calvin Johnson is the founder of K Records in Olympia, and was one of the major organizers of the seminal International Pop Underground Festival. Having worked with Beck, Heavenly, The Microphones, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and Built to Spill among others, he has been an integral part in the local and national music scene for decades now. Recently, he has begun releasing solo work, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. His latest work, Before The Dream Faded... shows that Calvin will continue to be an influential musician for years to come. - DJ DAN - Born in Olympia, raised in Seattle. In 1996 Dan released his first mix CD, Loose Caboose. Production took off for Dan when he did a remix for Orgy's cover of "Blue Monday." Dan put himself on the club hit map with the release of "That Zipper Track" and "Needle Damage" in 1999. The tracks exploded onto the club circuit and were further impacted with the release of remixes by Terry Mullan and the mix CD, Funk the System. The popularity of the releases earned him a slot on a world wide tour with fellow label artist Carl Cox and producing remixes for other Moonshine artists like Cirrus. Another Late Night along with the single Put That Record Back On followed in 2000, speeding along Dan's career. (All Music Guide) To program his most recent, the multi-faceted Lift, Dan reviewed which tracks had rocked the hardest in his travels worldwide over the past 18 months, loaded up his crate with those cuts, and cherry-picked judiciously. "I didn't base my mix around what the newest tracks of the week were, but rather, what would make up a great set that captured the vibe of not only where I'm at musically, but also the diversity that inspires me," he insists. "I love playing house, techno, electro, old school, breaks, and I want to represent all of those sounds." - REGGIE WATTS - His trademark falsetto baritone is a pillar of the West Coast music scene. Combining the beauty of traditional soul with the power of progressive rock, Reggie has gained a loyal national fan base and plenty of critical praise. As lead singer of Seattle heavy soul band Maktub, they have shared the stage with Coldplay, Spearhead, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Earth, Wind & Fire and India.Arie. Born in Germany to a French mother and African-American father, Reggie's work reflects his diverse roots. Rock and soul, French and American, theater and dance, lead singer and solo artist all become complimentary relationships in Reggie's work. Reggie's new album "Simplified" joins new wave and soul music as effortlessly as the diverse artist who created it. Reggie has lent his diverse talents to Seattle's vibrant theater, dance and comedy communities. Best known for his tireless work with improv music projects, Reggie is a staple of the underground soul, hip-hop and electronica music scene in Seattle. His ability to improvise gorgeous vocal melodies, beat-box and cutting-edge synth work has landed him in jam sessions with musicians as diverse as Soulive, Me'Shell NdegeOcello, Roy Hargrove, Bill Frisell, Wayne Horvitz, Bernie Worrell, and countless others. - KJ SAWKA - Seeing Kevin Sawka on the drums is the only way to believe the hype. He can play the most complex of breakbeats utilizing no loops and no extended samples - only his two hands and two feet. Whereas some artists claim to be performing live, it's more often than not a drummer playing alongside pre-programmed beats, if there's a drummer at all. Sawka, however, can perform each and every 808 bass kick, snare slap, and compressed highhat tick himself, in real-time. Over ten years ago, while performing in the Seattle grunge scene, someone played Kevin a LTJ Bukem track, and, as he says, "It scorched my brain. I dropped everything, and focused solely on how to recreate that on the drums." And he did. What was once thought to be absolutely impossible by any human, here, Kevin was making it look easy - like watching a jazz drummer who's said to play "like water flowing." His skills were so impressive that soon he was in the company of people like Michael Shrieve, drummer for Santana, Andy Summers of the Police, Bill Frisell, Amon Tobin, Jack Dejohnette, Will Calhoun, and many more. Over the last few years, he has toured the country multiple times, always leaving jaws dropped in awe at his skill and musical aptitude. He plays an amazing next-generation drumkit: a custom half-acoustic, half electronic drum kit with one diabolically huge kick drum, one insanely tiny kick drum, three snares, a multitude of trashy sounding cymbals & saw blades, a few electronic drum pads and all the acoustic drums set to electronic triggers. His first album, Synchronized Decompression, should evoke the pioneering work of Sawka's main influences: Amon Tobin and Squarepusher. As he's done for over 10 years now, Sawka is pushing the envelope with his one-man balls-to-the-wall dancefloor show. - DOORMOUSE - Born in Milwaukee, WI, now living in Miami, FL, Dan is the founder and CEO of ADDICT records, who's mission it is to "explore different realms of experimental electronic based music." A prolific DJ and producer since the 90's, Dan spends most of his time looking at women on the beach, and doesn't have a real job. MOTTO: a phallus in the ear is better than a finger in the rear DRIVING STYLE : Granny AFTERNOON SNACK: freah fruit salad and wheat grass juice from athens juice followed by a vomit inducing visit to that one beach. EQUIPMENT USED: voice, trumpet, computers, duh. - KLED - Seattle-based Kled is low-brow, no-class Farm Rock spawned in the mountains of Montana in the late 90's. The brainless child of guitarist/vocalist Pat Phlymm, Kled was born out of rural USA ennui coupled with modern dance-theatre performance art. Kled's songs straddle the fence between such capital-letter topics as Poop and Death, while bubbling in a stylistically perverse rock'em and sock'em context. Augmented by the knuckledragging antics of But,Cake (drums) and Beirdo (bass), Kled is on a mindless mission to aurally tackle the most sardonic of hipsters and the most repressed of conservatives by opening hearts, minds, and colons along the way. - JIMNI CRICKET - Among the most respected of Seattle rave promoters, having produced events for over 6 years, all the while remaining true to her roots. With a cult following of raging HappyHardcore stomping Candy Kids, Jimni Cricket is Seattle's all out best and most well known HHC Dj. With more shows under her belt during her years of domination then most DJs will ever attend, let alone play, she has proven time again and again that she owns HHC in Seattle. - and MORE TBA! - For further information, please visit http://www.InLovingMemorySeattle.org If you have any questions, concerns, or advice, please direct email to [email protected] PLEASE PASS THIS AROUND TO EVERYONE YOU DO & DON'T KNOW!
