(2008.01.18) GUNS'N'BOMBS @ Celebrities
Hey all,
Got some super exciting news for ya! Stereotype Fridays along with Intimate Productions present : GUNS'n'BOMBS (LA) @ Celebrities Nightclub + DJs Abasi (Intimate, SiGNAL) & RC Lair (Stereotype, Believe) ->www.myspace.com/gunsnbombs<- Guns'n'Bombs is made up of Filip Nikolic aka Turbotito, a prolific musician whose past and present music projects include Ima Robot, Ludo X, Junior Senior, and Johnny Love, one of Chicago's most notorious party promoters and DJs. Filip Nikolic and Johnny Love first met when Johnny brought Filip to Chicago to DJ one of his infamous Opaque "Dirty Talk" parties. They soon bonded over mutual love of early rave, minimal techno, Chicago jack and acid tracks, and the Cybernetic Broadcasting System. Following this encounter, they came to each other's cities to DJ back and forth over the next few months. Prior to Johnny becoming a fugitive due to his illegal loft parties becoming too popular and having to flee to LA, Filip played one of Johnny's last parties in Chicago. Soon after, Filip suggested they start a music project to produce their own brand of music like "the kind we played in Chicago at your parties," and Guns'n'Bombs was born. here are a few quotes on these guys: "L.A. production tandem Guns N Bombs beat the bloghaus types to the punch by signing with trés chic French label Kitsuné late in 2006 (and on a MySpace message no less). Their rip-snorting "Nothing Is Getting Us Anywhere" shredded U.S. dance floors throughout 2007, with its desperate robot vocals and a sawtooth router bit. Formed by Ima Robot bassist Filip Turbotito and Chicago DJ Johnny Love, they have already remixed tracks from Klaxons and Chromeo. A forthcoming album, not picked up by a label so far, should make a serious impact on the culture of U.S.-bred dance music. Of course, neither Love nor Turbotito were born inside our borders (Italy and Denmark, respectively)." -Pitchfork Media, Sept. 28, 2007 "Unpretentious and unforgivingly badass, L.A.'s Guns 'n' Bombs (including an Ima Robot member) single-handedly put the United States outside New York back on my techno map, blow current German electro standards out of the water and give Paris’s New French Touch a run for its money." -Montreal Mirror Purchase $15 advance tickets at : BeatStreet Records (604.683.3344) Zulu Records (604.738.3232) and online: ->www.intimateproductions.com<- See you all there! :-) -f. techno, electro, noise, call it what you want... Guns'n'Bombs will play it and will rock it :-) As you can see by their mix, their sets are pretty versatile. I love how they threw in Deep Inside at the start for good measure (my all time fave house track) and I love what they have done to it! I need to do that :-)
