He’s been DJ’ing since 1998 and developed his style while working in his family’s record store in Bury, England (opened by his dad at age 4), but it wasn’t until after he arrived in Canada that his turntable abilities suddenly jumped to new heights. Heights later described by Knowledge Magazine as, “awe inspiring” and “some next level shit.” Mat has toured across the globe, pioneering 4-turntable club nights in Whistler, Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Shambhala and Vegas to name a few. He has amassed a music collection spanning all genres that is now best described as a black hole and his DJ’ing has jumped up yet to another level in complexity and pure showmanship with his use of Serato. Combine all of this with his award winning (Red Bull’s most versatile DJ in Vancouver in 2007) mixing and scratching skills, and you’ll see why he is considered among the best by anyone who sees him. He rocks the crowd and blends all the genres of funky goodness you’ll hear at Big Sexy Funk seamlessly and put it all together like only the Alien can! With guests… PRECISE & KRAIG These two are a permanent fixture in the Vancouver Breakbeat scene and collectively have been DJ’ing for over 18 years – Precise’s roots are as a Hip-Hop turntablist having won numerous local competitions such as: DJ Soundwars, placing runner up in the DMC’s and ITF DJ battles in the years 97 through 99, and he was invited to compete in the nationals as well. Kraig loves all things funky and has been dropping sets of Breakbeats, soul, funk and vocal House music fused with live percussion all around Vancity at hundreds of clubs and parties, and in Alberta and Los Angeles, CA. Put these two together, and you’ve got a DJ set full of party rockin Funky and Electro Breaks fused with old skool Hip Hop with the elements of turntablism and live percussion added to the mix. Lately these guys have also been busy working on series of remixes and rerubs that are tearing up the clubs… If you're down with all things funky, be sure to check these two out in their second visit to Big Sexy Funk!
