DR Funk lineup is realeased! Stay tuned as we may be adding a few others to help us start the night off right with some tastey beats during the BBQ.
DR Funk Stage Hirshee (Electro House) Born and raised in Vancouver BC, Hirshee was exposed to a wide range of musical styles early on. The daily rotation on the family stereo included everything from Michael Jackson, to traditional Kenyan music. While the offering was diverse, he was naturally drawn to artists that expressed their talents through powerful rhythm. After such an upbringing in a musically charged environment, it was only natural for Hirshee to express himself through experimentation with different musical styles; as a result he was drawn to the art of drumming and DJ’ing. Spinning hip hop at first he soon began experimenting with different forms of electronica. After discovering the sounds of house music he instantly was hooked. Hirshee quickly made the shift and developed his new sound which got him booked regularly in the Vancouver club and party scene. After a successful stint of DJ’ing around the west coast Hirshee decided to move beyond the limitations of just DJ’ing and took the next logical step into the world of production. His love and passion for all music reflects in his productions, as his sound could vary anywhere from harder electro to funky disco. His music has already been charted by many high profile names such as Hatiras, DJ Dan, Adam K, Sandy Vee and many more. With releases on Blow Media, Jet Set Music, Gossip, Sweet Cherry and his own label Stereo Soul Recordings, watch out for more quality releases from this rising star as his demand for music is rapidly growing. Kraig vs. Precise (Breaks/Funk) These two are a permanent fixture in the Vancouver Breakbeat scene and collectively have been DJ’ing for over 18 years – Precise’s roots are as a Hip-Hop turntablist having won numerous local competitions such as: DJ Soundwars, placing runner up in the DMC’s and ITF DJ battles in the years 97 through 99, and he was invited to compete in the nationals as well. Kraig loves all things funky and has been dropping sets of Breakbeats, soul, funk and vocal House music fused with live percussion all around Vancity at hundreds of clubs and parties in BC, Alberta and Los Angeles, CA. Put these two together, and you’ve got a DJ set full of party rockin Funky and Electro Breaks fused with old skool Hip Hop with the elements of turntablism and live percussion added to the mix. Lately these guys have also been busy working on series of remixes and rerubs that are tearing up the clubs… This is the reason that these two have played alongside the biggest in the biz: Krafty Kuts, The Freestylers, Atomic Hooligan, A. Skillz, The Bassbin Twins, Fort Knox Five, The DrumAttic Twins, The Rogue Element, Kid Kenobi, Aquasky, DJ Icey, DJ Craze, DJ Dopey, A-Trak, Dig-Dug, Big League Chu, Czech, Vinyl Ritchie, DJ Fixx, Sharaz, Tony Faline, Mat the Alien, Myagi and the Smalltown DJ’s. If you're down with all things funky, be sure to check these two out! Oliver Nickles (House/Techno/Electro) Techno. Minimal. Tech house. Acid. House. Electro. Oliver Nickels' sound defies easy categorization, blending the cutting edge of electronic music with a wide range of influences. Energetic behind the decks, with rock-solid grooves and a forward-thinking approach to music, his live sets and productions are a showcase for the cutting edge in underground music. Solidifying his presence as an up-and-coming producer, he has remixed and produced for respected labels Blu-Fin, Takt, Delecto, Mena Music, Ready to Rock, Jackmoves, and System Recordings, with many more on the way. Oliver’s tracks have been played and charted by artists as diverse as Andrea Doria, Kolombo, Stonebridge, John Acquaviva, Noir, and Desyn Masiello. Along with his busy production schedule, he also jointly manages Stereo Soul Recordings, and is one half of the no-limit techno duo Ragdoll. Ryan Ross (Funk/Break/Electro oldschool jam meets new school toast) Rockin the party cashbah since 02, Ryan’s been leaving huge a trail of dirt, grime and filth in his wake. When contacted, a local Janitor who didn’t want to be named was quoted as saying ‘What an ass, always leaving this thick, hot mess everywhere. I mean, I don’t even know who’s balls are on my face anymore! The guy is a menace.’ Originally focusing on heavier breaks, he’s now expanded to include anything with a baseline that will make your nose hairs shrivel with their spine tanglin wobble. Expect a bit of a throwback set with some older tracks from the day, mixed with whatever new ‘BLAM!#$%’ is floating his boat these days. Who knows, maybe even a trumpet line? Omega Image (Breaks) Omega Image has been throwing down at numerous events since 02 and has never looked back. His keen taste for music along with his ability to read a crowd, have allowed him to rise any crowd from the dead. With sounds ranging from devastating bass lines to jazz flutes, you can always expect something that will knock your socks off. Miss Erin (Classic Rock) Sunrise on the river in a beautiful setting. Compliment it with some classic tunes ranging from the beetles to the stones, and you’ve got yourself one heck of a way to ring in the morning and send summer off right. Astroglide (Garage and 2-Step) You may remember him from such moments as ‘holy crap, this track is ill!’, and ‘whoa, this mix has been bumping in my car for months!’, Astroglide is truly one of the good ol days hero’s for many of us. Ringing in many of fine nights with his classic Garage and 2-step, how can we not have him back for some of that delicious goodness? Wigglesworth (Hip Hop) One of the original DA pimp daddies, Aaron has got more treats in his bag than a fat kid on Halloween. Tight, quick mixes mark his style, so be sure to check out some of his flavah! |
