(2008.08.28) Myagi / Sole Claw @ Lotus Sound Lounge
Myagi aka Sole Claw aka Andrew Mavor has, in a short time, gone from being a self taught bedroom producer to being an a-list international party rocker. The past 2 years alone have seen him play sunrise sets in Australia, packed clubs in the metropolises of China, rocking boat parties in the old heart of Paris, nude beaches in California and a slew of even crazier settings.
He has done remixes for indie bands and hip hop stars, for legends like The Crystal Method and Phil Hartnoll of Orbital, for up and coming artists and for stalwarts of the underground. His influence over the sound of underground club music in North America has been felt, but rarely as much there as overseas, where Myagi’s hectic touring schedule as a main ambassador of the North American electronic music scene has helped him spread his sound to the corners of the globe and earned him a devoted fan base in many music communities. This has all been possible because, like any true artist, Andrew Mavor has embraced change, while still retaining a character that is quintessentially his own. Myagi’s music has evolved and jumped genres; his sets have gone from mostly big beat to breaks and house, now settling into comfortable mashup, a bastard soundscape that can only be described as purely his own - house, electro, breakbeat and hard edged funk, butting up against rock and hip hop; a conglomeration of sounds that is more than the sum of its parts. Simply put, Myagi demolishes crowds. 2007 was a big year for Andrew Mavor. As Myagi, his remix of Crystal Method’s “High Roller” for the bands 10 year anniversary re-release of their seminal album “Vegas” got rave reviews. He toured constantly, playing more shows in a a six month period than most DJ’s play in their career, and logging more time on planes than the average flight attendant. After nearly 40 tracks (both originals and remixes) released worldwide, it was about time to consider the inevitable album, and 2008 finds Myagi poised to team up with Freddy Fresh and his label Howlin to release the cd “3 Years Of Sunrise,” as much a journey into melodic, cinematic sounds as a collection of dancefloor smashers. This doesn’t mean that Myagi has left the club for more chilled out, Sunday morning settings. His work with labels like Title Fight / Fight Club continues to expand and grow, adding to the already massive catalog of Mavor’s achievements as one of the seminal underground music producers to come out of North America in recent years. His first appearance at Chubby Beats is part of his worldwide album release tour.
