(2008.12.12) AMPLIFIED 2 @ The Fall, 644 Seymour st
The Integrated Grime Unit's 1 year anniversary!
Come celebrate a year of Glitch Hop in Vancouver with us!! We're bringing out the whole unit for this one and we suggest you do the same! Music for the night will be provided by random combinations of the following I.G.U. crowd slayers: ILL-ESHA (Vancouver, BC) Singing since she was a child in various choirs and theatre productions, ill-esha has always integrated her voice into her musical endeavours. After being told she didn’t sound “rock” enough in her garage band years, she found a more accepting home in the world of electronic music, initially singing in the late 90s over DJs and quickly picking up a set of decks to become the first female in drum & bass to simultaneously spin, sing and MC. Conquering every style of broken beat from hip hop to breaks, she’s performed with artists as diverse as De La Soul, Andy C, Dieselboy, Klute, and LTJ Bukem. Touring many times across Canada and the US, she’s also been featured on several television shows broadcast on CBC, CTV and MTV Canada. Her first vinyl release, a 2001 collaboration with Datcyde on Breakbeat Science called "Social Skillz" was wildly successful worldwide, selling out its first pressing and re-released four times in various formats. Never satisfied, she decided to focus more on music production and has been working both collaboratively and solo, with several vinyl and digital releases already lined up for release through 2008. Her eclectic, original style has rocked audiences from LA to Miami to Taiwan, in all sorts of club and festival venues as well as television, film and multimedia platforms. Currently she hosts a weekly radio show on the world's largest dedicated online dnb station, Bassdrive. Recently corrupted by the I.G.U., watch now as she unleashes her own take on glitch hop & dubstep! APPLICATION (Medicine Hat, AB) The dictionary meaning of the word Application is, to use something or put a process to the use of something… behind that word came a deeper meaning to me when I thought of its importance in the creation of music. Application… “The relevance or value that something has, especially when it is applied to a certain field or area”. Even as I read these definitions out of a book the words ring true to my meaning. I see a song in general as a multiplex of applications. All music. From country to glitch hop. Some format, or some technique was used to make, mix, and master that song you listen to and love, regardless of your musical tastes. The word Application to me carries it’s meaning into the human body and its emotions. Even your body, yes you the dancer, applies its energy to the places the energy is needed to keep you on the floor. My point is when you feel inspiration through a sound; your body reacts by releasing energy and endorphins. If you feel inspired by a song and react, you have completed the process that started with inspiration in the artist. The performances of the songs you hear at your favorite show, rely on a routine, a rhythmic format crucial to the process of blending tracks together seamlessly, or on the other end of the spectrum accompanying the rhythm section of a rock band with whatever instrument you play. There is millions of right ways to play, or create; it all depends on the application or style the artist chooses to use. To me the name Application represents my drive, my inspiration to create and grow. To me Application represents my life and passion. While most will only see the name as one more pseudonym in an ever growing electronic culture you will understand its real meaning when you see hear and feel its vibe. JMEJ (Edmonton, AB) He has constantly driven himself to better production and evolving and innovating his sound. 2007 was the year he really took off and toured with production partner DJ Application while throwing shows under the moniker "Integrated Grime Unit" (then just Glitchy & Scratchy, Application and J.me.J). All the while he has worked with some of the most talented people rocking the scene such as DJ Degree (Edmonton), DJ Spilt Milk (Vancouver), DJ Celcius (Edmonton), Glitchy and Scratchy (Vancouver). His selfless approach to music is evident by just talking with him, and this year he has plans to further his growth by continuing to push himself and others to play/make music for the world to hear! DEEPS (Nelson, BC) Born on the west coast, Jesse Farquar (aka DEEPS) now resides in heart of BC's Kootany Mountains. In 2004, he took to the decks for the first time at a New Years party; since then, he's had the chance to play at festivals such as Shambhala alongside such names as Bassnectar, Ed Rush & Optical, Evol Intent, The PhatConductor, The Glitch Mob, SOTEG, Excision, Subvert, Skream, & Rusko. You can catch him across western Canada rockin dancefloors with his own edits/remixes, and fresh unreleased bangers from his crew. Never restricted by pesky bpm's or genres, Deeps' main vein is what PK and I.G.U. djs are known for: BIG BAD BASS! DEWEY dB (Vancouver, BC) For the last decade, Dewey dB has been at the forefront of new music and technology. Inspired initially by the early hip hop/turntablism scene, Dewey found IDM while pursuing his electrical engineering degree and continues to be inspired by bass-heavy, glitchy sounds. He is one of the original founders of Toronto’s Dubslingers crew, a prolific force in Canadian dubstep for the last 4 years. Internationally, he has tirelessly promoted new music, running three popular websites (dubstep.ca, downtempo.ca, and dubstepradio.com). Currently located in Vancouver, Dewey has infiltrated the Integrated Grime Unit with his skills for building robots and ripping 8-bit samples. He is currently corrupting the West Coast with dubstep and glitch-hop in the studio and on the stage. FRANK GRIMES (Vancouver, BC) The Grimey One, Francisco Grimirez, Frank the Tank... whatever you choose to call him, one thing is undeniable - this boy is electric. His positive energy is as infectious as the warped basslines and dance moves he is known to drop. Prepare to catch Franky fever. GLITCHY & SCRATCHY (Vancouver, BC) Hopefully by now you know who they are, because they are seriously running low on creative ways to introduce themselves. Happy 1 Year I.G.U.!!!! a 19+ event, tix $15 @ door The Fall, 644 Seymour for the face-geeks: Integrated Grime Unit | Facebook Last edited by Bevvy Swift; Nov 25, 08 at 08:53 PM. |
