T. Power Friday, January 19th @ Cyber & many more..
Abstrakt Entertainment presents:
Come celebrate Christoqher's Birthday bash, $3 drink specials ALL NIGHT with: T. Power (UK) www.digitalsoundboy.com ..::.. www.myspace.com/t90wer T. Power's Marc Royal first came to prominence working with hardcore techno group Bass Selective, whose 1991 hit "Blow Out Part II" was an influential proto-jungle track. He's since risen to new acclaim as a solo artist with T. Power's experimental blend of lush ambience and often over-the-top rhythmic complexity. His 12-inch "Horny Mutant Jazz," as well as the follow-up full-length "The Self-Evident Truth of an Intuitive Mind" (both for the Sound of the Underground label) are widely considered early masterpieces of ambient-jungle, and did much conceptual trailblazing where jungle's absorption of jazz and other more measured, relaxed compositional elements are concerned. Although subsequent work has strayed from jungle's rhythmic syncopation into more traditional techno and even entirely beatless ambient, drum'n'bass remains the core element of much of T. Power's music. Royal's roots are, not surprisingly, in hip-hop, in which he immersed himself during it's U.K. heyday in the early to mid-'80s. Burning out on hip-hop early, Royal's affection for breaks and hard-hitting rhythms followed him into his explorations of the music of David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Pat Metheny, and those two components -- complex breaks and a keen sense of melody -- inform much of his solo work to the present day. T Power moved into Jungle as it was spawned out of hardcore rave. Wanting to avoid the increasing politics within the scene, he began to produce experimental drum and bass, culminating in the seminal Self Evident Truth of an Intuitive Mind. Following from this, came the next album Waveform. Less accessible, it carried his experimental tracks further into the leftfield. He himself proclaimed it as "self-indulgent". Partnering with Shy FX, he began to producer "happier", more party-oriented, jump up and jazzy drum and bass – “Shake Ur Body” , “Feelings”, “Don’t wanna know” , “Diary of original Sound Boy”, “Feelings” being the clear example. Long Time Dead was released, cementing the return to dancefloor-oriented drum and bass and breaks. Big things on way for T. Power in '07, as his new album "Music 4Life" is nearly finished. The new album will have plenty of funk, some soul and an orchestral piece based on Mahler's 1st symphony, 4th movement... It's a promise, that T. Power will definitely be bringing a whole new experience to the club’s dancefloor . ill-esha PH1, Agroculture, Reverse, Breakbeat Science ill-esha began her music career singing and playing instruments in bands before crossing over into the electronic world as an MC/vocalist in 1997. She performed all over North America with house, techno and drum n bass DJs before taking up spinning in 1999, when she developed her now trademark style of singing, MCing and spinning simultaneously. She plays all styles of broken beat and has performed in over 35 international cities with names like De La Soul, Andy C, Dieselboy, Too Short, Hype, LTJ Bukem. Her first release with Datcyde on Breakbeat Science, "Social Skillz" was released 5 times in various formats. A featured DJ on CBC and CTV, shes also spun on MTV Canada in between touring North America and debuting in Taiwan at the Heineken Music Festival. Currently, she is working on a solo album as well as many diverse collaborations from rock to techno to funk, with several collaborative and solo releases slotted for 2007. Dabbler Automatic, XS Records, Lion Dubs Originally inspired by Vancouver legend DJ Czech’s fusion of breaks and bass lines, Dabbler started playing breaks and house. After hearing Jonny L’s “Sawtooth LP” he was drawn towards Drum and Bass and never looked back. Shortly after his transition, Dabbler was playing several times a week and became well known in Vancouver for his unique mixing skills and varied style. Since that time, Dabbler has thrown some of Vancouver’s biggest and best Drum and Bass shows, and has played alongside nearly every major name in DnB. He was a resident of Vancouver’s early rave companies, Twisted Productions, and later as a part of Automatic, Canada’s longest running DnB weekly. Through this involvement, Dabbler has played alongside such celebrated international artists as Shy Fx, Pendulum, Dillinja, and Zinc to name only a few. Constant exposure to these artists led to a new desire to create his own sound. Finding new inspiration in Reggae and Dub, Dabbler signed his first track “Ali Baba” to Toronto’s quintessential imprint, Hustlin Beats. Around the same time, he finished a bootleg remix with Vancouver’s Pioneer DJ and Producer Pacific, which was quickly scooped by XS Records in the UK. Since the 2006 release, it has already moved 2500 units, and all that before even touching the shores of North America. Both his released and unreleased tunes have received support from artists like Visionary, Sappo, Muffler and Benny Page, and have led him to his most recent signing of “Future Riddim” to Marcus Visionary’s Lion Dubs label. With local and international support, Dabbler’s music is increasingly heard and demanded on global dance floors. This recent success can only be seen as a precursor to further international achievements. Mary Mac BBE (Breakbeat Empire), djmarymac.com Mary Mac was one of a handful of DJs in Canada pioneering the UK breakbeat sound. Her distinctive style encompassed hard and dirty, bass-driven, rolling breaks mixed with funk, well-placed vocals and a bangin' dance floor groove. After hosting a weekly breaks and dnb night in Ottawa for two years, Mary was bit by the jungle bug. Her efforts and tastes have catered mostly to drum and bass since, and moving to Vancouver has proven to be an easy opportunity to reinvent herself as a dnb deejay, whose signature sexy and energetic style keeps bodies moving on dance floors everywhere. Mary Mac has been playing parties, clubs, stores, salons, breakdance and skate competitions, fashion, art, and radio shows for over 6 years, has held several residencies, won the Ottawa High Noon Champion DJ title, and has graced decks in Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria and Mexico City.
