thurs: Japan's MIGHTY CROWN REGGAE SOUNDSYSTEM

Irish and Chin’s Mighty Crown sound system is a dominant force in the Reggae/Dancehall music industry. Hailing from Yokohama, Japan, Mighty Crown has become one of the industry’s most popular and visible sound systems.

Operating the Mighty Crown sound system, brothers Simon and Samuel Tse have taken their passion for Reggae/Dancehall music to a higher level. The brothers/owners have added members Supa G (Gaku Kanazawa), Koji and Ninja (Rohan Henry) to help make Mighty Crown a permanent fixture in the industry.

Supa G (Gaku Kanazawa) is quickly becoming one of Mighty Crown’s most visible faces. His extreme knowledge of Reggae music and juggling skills have overcome the Japanese dancehall market. As a result of Supa G’s heavy appearances on CDs and DVDs, there is now a growing demand for him to be featured in Mighty Crown’s world-wide performances.

Koji is the member of Mighty Crown, who boasts the most overall knowledge of Dancehall culture. He is a collector of the music and specializes in playing vintage Reggae. Koji typically opens Mighty Crown’s performances with a host of rub-a-dub selections. He is the key reason that Mighty Crown’s dub plate box is so deep.

By incorporating Jamaican born selector Ninja (Rohan Henry) on to the Mighty Crown team, the sound further strengthened their juggling component. Additionally, Ninja, who is based in the U.S., bridges the culture gap. His clear understanding of the music/culture and strong juggling skills has reinforced Mighty Crown. Through Ninja, Mighty Crown is constantly gaining recognition as a juggling machine. The sound’s chock-full calendar tells the story.

Mighty Crown has scored by dominating an industry, which was once reserved for Jamaican based sound systems only. The remarkable concept of knowing and loving Reggae music, along with mastering the patois necessary to communicate to the audience, sets Mighty Crown a part from most foreign sounds in the arena. Mighty Crown was a nominee for “The Most Popular Selector/Sound System” at the 25th Annual International Reggae and World Music Awards earlier this year.

Irish and Chin, Inc. is an entertainment production, promotions and management company, which spearheads Mighty Crown’s activities as they relate to Reggae/Dancehall music. From bookings and tour productions, to overall consulting, Irish and Chin, Inc. have helped lead Mighty Crown to a respectable position in the Reggae/Dancehall music industry.

Mighty Crown, who has been celebrating their 15th Anniversary all year long, made their mark in Reggae/Dancehall history when they won Irish and Chin’s coveted World Clash title in 1999. Although in existence since 1991, it was this victory, which jump-started a very prosperous career for Mighty Crown. Ultimately, this victory secured Mighty Crown with world-wide popularity. Subsequently, Mighty Crown scored a number of clash victories including UK Cup Clash (World Clash England), World Clash Antigua and many more. The sound also won a number of face-off competitions against leading sound systems/selectors including Black Kat, Tony Matterhorn, Ricky Trooper, etc.

In Japan, Mighty Crown is a movement. The name Mighty Crown is synonymous to Reggae/Dancehall music and success. Mighty Crown operates an entertainment empire, which is Japan’s premiere source of Reggae music and culture. Mighty Crown Entertainment, the sound’s parent company, is made up of a record label -- Life Style Records-- with top acts including Fire Ball, Papa B, Guan Chen and of course, the sound itself; a chic/casual urban contemporary clothing line -- Nine Rulaz; a magazine dedicated to Reggae Music and Culture – Strive; and last but not least a limited edition “Mighty Crown” Nike sneaker.

Mighty Crown’s position in Japan’s music industry is so strong that numerous records labels have awarded Mighty Crown with plaques for contributing to the sale of Reggae artists in Japan. Notably, the sound received plaques for Sean Paul’s Dutty Rock and Elephant Man’s Pon Di River albums.

Over the years, Mighty Crown has forged relationships with scores of Reggae artists. The sound consistently produces mixtapes and records dubplates from leading artists. Additionally, Mighty Crown and Irish and Chin, Inc. have produced tours for Elephant Man and Capleton. And most recently, Mighty Crown pegged a number of high profile artists for their stellar 15th Anniversary Celebrations in May and August 2006. These events were second-to-none, as in total over 40,000 people attended. Millions of people will soon witness Mighty Crown’s magnitude, as their 15th Anniversary Celebration will be aired on a number of cable television outlets.

Mighty Crown’s passion and quest for success will continuously open doors for them. Irish and Chin, Inc. saw Mighty Crown’s potential many years ago and knew that major accomplishments lied before them. It’s no secret that Mighty Crown will shine for many years to come. This amazing sound runs an entertainment empire in Japan, while maintaining a strong presence in the world-wide Reggae/Dancehall music industry. Mighty Crown is a force to be reckoned with.
