Goldie & Doc Scott
Was that ever some sick funking jungle. Or as my catch phrase goes. " SICK FUCKING BEATS!" Event the opening DJ;s had me daning from the minute I stepped into the place. Goldie aboslutely blew me away with a set that contained not one bad song. Every single one rocked my world. A couple morue than other, but nevertheless a solid, solid set. Doc Scott was a bit more compliacated. More snare's being thrown in and such yet even with his diverse and complex style of mixing it was all in beautiful rythym, and it was all precisely mixed. Props for a wicked ass show. I stood there half the time trying to dance but just had my jaw dropped cuz I was in amazement of the crazy ass hist I was hearing!!!!!!!! Shout- Outs to -
Sammy - Mofo, I had fun wif your ass. Gotta do it agina sometime.i'll drive next time. U get hammered. U looked so tired the last hour! Sean-Me n' U ripped it up like usual. Where the shit did u go??? Tony-I don't know if you're on here but nice to finally meet u and not forget u're name 2 mins later. It's bout time since I see u like every fucking place i go. MANOS(fran)- I can't believe those mofo's didn't let u in. Like I said. iwish I was I gigantic juice monkey and showed those bouncers what was up. What BASTARDS> Oh well, u're sets aren't too far off from goldie & doc scotts sets. U'd probably do better if you had their crates. REPRESENT , Vancouver WHUT?????? PEACE!!!!!!!! Oh, yeah. Where the shit were like all the usual junglist's and party kids. The crowd was alot older than expected and they weren't feeling the energy of the music as well as me and the people I was with were. Nevertheless it was still off the hook!

what can i say? im at a lost for words. goldie is a fucking god, a diety of the decks. i shit you not, anyone who missed last night, truley missed out on one of the greatest club events vancouver has seen..even when i first steped in the club i knew the place was going off, with link and wood mixing in some dope jazzy DnB(my favourite) and the climax for me was when goldie put down timeless and then rewound at the end of his set...i could tell that doc scott was gonna lay down some ill shit as well but i couldn't stay any longer.
i left shortly after goldie's set, thats why ididn't see you chris..i thought i said bye. p.s. goldie was going off, he was harsh digging the vibe, he was also high as fuck cuz his eyes were rolling around his head and shit. after his set he came down into the crowd and was macking on all the pretty ladies...what a guy, my hero :) |

i know what im talking about. the only think he's improved on is the fact he doesn't fake an accent anymore. im sorry if this bursts your bubble. verbal assasin couldn't rhyme his way through a dr seuss book. mc rage nonwithstanding. i have no opinion on him. |

buddy, where he started and how good he was when he started has nothing to do with how he rhymes now. I'm not saying he's the best MC in the world, but I'm saying he's vancouver's best MC and If he was there last night instead of Rage , it would've been a much much better show. This all being said without any disrespect for Goldie & Doc Scoot cuz they laid it down!!!

other than that i have seen him ruin countless parties with his horrible mcing. i have witnessed people unplugging his mic and turning down his volume in disgust. i have seen him jump up on peoples djs sets who didnt ask him to mc, and start to blather on the mic. he sucks. he's not good. Quote:
in the vancouver scheme of mcs that play out at leats once a month, i would rate him 2nd to last, higher than urban j. and im not even sure of that. Quote:

Obviously, u haven't heard Manos vs Dabbler with Dawson on the mic. Cuz u would've shut up long ago. I honestly can't remember any of his rhymes. I don't pay too much attention to the rhyming. I just kinda have it in the background while I focus on the music. All i need to hear is rhymes that go with the beat. The majority of MC's can't do that. Dawson goes with the beat. That's why I like him. I'm there for the Jungle , the MC'ing is just to complement it.

i have heard manos vs dabbler with dawson on the mic. and he sucks.
i've heard him with dabbler alone, and he sucks. i've heard him with manos alone, and he sucks. so, i ask of you, if he is such a great mc, give me two lines of your most memorable dawson rhyme. if he's this good, he should at least have one rhyme that stands out, right? or at least tell me which vancouver mcs dawson is better than. im beginning to think you don't even know the score. |

edited posts are a bitch to reply to.
so you cant even tell me ONE dawson rhyme? how is he a great mc if you don't even know what he says? he 'goes along to the music'? so if someone stood up there and whistled along to the track, that would be just as good? |

if you cant regurgitate one line from a show thats been on for almost 10 years and is played a dozen times a day, i can see why you like mc groove. |

like common man. its like saying manos sucks as a dj and only likes to grab your nuts because he couldnt spin for shit when he first started. even tho dawson is an mc (remember i hate mcs period) lets just give him some encouraging comments for once now eh? |

i disagree. like i said earlier, that comment i made was in response to me 'not knowing what the fuck i was talking about'. i wanted to make it clear that ive had a lot of experience with dawson/groove/assasin.
has he gotten better? arguably. i don't think so. he's different. he now sounds like ruckus instead of skibadee. he does shut up a lot more, and i havent seen him impose himself on a party/dj in 6 months or so. i give him props for trying to improve (fuck, i've even posted props on this board to his improvement in the past), but i hardly think he is even close to being the best mc in vancouver, as was said in this thread. he isnt even close. everyone can like him or hate him, but to think by any stretch he's vancouvers best mc is either straight up ignorance or insanity. that's my main point. |

theres a difference between a HIP HOP MC and a JUNGLE MC with hip hop and rappers, the MC is much more closely listened to rather than the DJ, the band, the beat boxer whatever... point is its vital that hip hop mcs work on original lyrics with good rhymes, because their role in the music is very important. alot of hip hop is made so that there can be an mc rapping his or her rhymes over it. with drumnbass, yes back in the days of jungle, the mcs were actually very closely listened to. but now, the way drumnbass has evolved, it just does not need an mc anymore. the music has been made to sound good by itself, not to have an mc overpowering the song. so when u hear any mc nowadays with a drumnbass dj, the minute the mc starts saying anything in the mic, people get pissed off, just because drumnbass is not made for mc's anymore!! so you're asking for a rhyme by verbal assassin to prove how good of an mc he is. well point is, we dont need to give you a rhyme. he may disagree with what i'm saying now, but his role is only to hype up the music and the DJ, basically get the party going. have u ever wondered about why many recording djs have not added an mc to rhyme over their set in the past year or so? like i said before, only because drumnbass music has evolved to a stage where its gotta be listened to by itself. the dj is the main show. we want to hear long smooth mixes, progression in sounds and styles.. mainly we want to hear the dj. so for now, dawson needs to prove how good of a lyricist he really is. he came into the drumnbass scene as an MC very late and most of his public appearances were with djs who were the main show. drumnbass doesnt need mcs anymore. back in the old skool drumnbass days and some of the jump up times, an mc was almost (let me quote again ALMOST) essential like hip hop mcs are to hip hop. so until i've seen him perform as the main MC with a dj whos there to perform for dawson and not himself, im going to refrain from any bad discouraging comments towards him. i understand that you see lyrics as a huge thing in music and i respect that, since i too am a dedicated listener to hip hop and many vocal genres of music. but the point is i know not that many people on this board has seen him do a serious show (a serious show as in him being the star mc rhyming over beats he wants to be played). i dont know if you have but i dont think i've heard of him doing a serious mc show. if you have and can tell with me valid facts about why he is the bad mc u see him as, please prove me wrong. but if you havent, theres no point in disrepsecting people who take what they do seriously. i'm pretty sure if i casually(let me stress the world casually) looked down on you over something you have a passion for, you'd have alot to say about how wrong i am to do so. so till everyone has seen verbal assassin perform as a the main performer, or until he releases a recording of himself, lets not ask that question werdyboy just asked Last edited by Moon; Jul 09, 02 at 09:29 PM. |
