For all you photo ppl who may be interested in this stuff, the equipment that I was using is as follows:
My beloved Canon A-1 Canon FD 50mm f 1.8 Sigma FD mount 24mm f 2.8 Canon Speedlite 533g (The huge flash that was blinding ppl all night) Canon Motor Drive MA Fuji Superia X-tra 400 asa The technique that I was restricted to using involves estimating the distance for focusing, and setting the camera to f/22 So that I maintain a maximum depth of field and ensure that I don't experience excessive flash over exposure. Some of the pics didn't turn out as well as I'd have liked. The reason that I had to estimate the distances was there was next to no lighting. I don't think I've had to deal with such horrible lighting in my life. (actually, I have, but that's a different story) I also experienced a fair bit of flash overexposure. I haven't verified my flash's guide number so I'm simply assuming it's as rated, but from experience it seems to be a fair bit higher. For those who are curious, my flash is rated at a guide number of 36m at 100 asa. Typical flashes are rated anywhere from 5m to 10m at 100 asa just to give you an indication of the brightness factor. Next time I'll most likely be bringing my telephoto zoom and my Manfroto tripod. I'll have some truly excellent photos to show next event. PS. if you were able to follow all that photography stuff, then you are truly a hardcore photographer. |

Okay, so it sounds like you ppl want some interesting pics of the crowd too. I'll try and play around with that idea. Party photos are a new to me, so I'll have to see what I can with it. Trying different angles and such. It's hard to work in that environment just cause of the lighting, and even with a flash, there are still some considerations that have to be made. As far as most ppl are concerned a flash makes photos easier, but for me it adds one more level of complexity.
