The Biggest Drum and Bass Event of the Year??

There was some discussion on this boord after the Craze/Skibadee and Marky (not) show in April whether it was premature to call something the "biggest drum and bass event of the year" in april....

so now that the year is basically over, let's here some thoughts on what WAS the biggest drum and bass event of the year. I realize that Bailey is coming up on Dec. 8th, and there is always the possibility (good) that it'll be super rammmed, and the best show of the year, but considering that it's on a Sunday I doubt that it will stack up against the heavyweights this year, though it WILL be a killer show... other than Bailey i don't think that there will be any other big DJs coming in between now and Jan. 01, and while there might be a couple of little parties, and still the outside possibility of Clash 5 in December, i think it's safe to ask the question.

as far as i'm concerned it comes down to a couple of shows.

contenders

Craze/Skibadee
Bad Company
Goldie/Doc Scott
Dieselboy
Aphrodite
Invaderz
DJ Rap
Freaky Flow/Flipside
Clash 4
Suv
DJ SS

in terms of the size of the crowd, there were more bodies at Craze/Skibadee than any other show, followed by Clash 4, Bad Company and Goldie/Doc Scott and Freaky Flow/Flipside in roughly a tie, followed by DJ SS, Invaderz and Suv, Followed by DJ Rap. I Didn't go to Diesel or Aphro, so i don't know how many people went to those.

in terms of talent, it would be pretty hard to argue that Goldie and Doc Scott with Rage didn't represent the biggest "names" purely based on the length of time that they have been involved with the scene and their continuing relevance. I'd put Bad Company next in line, followed by Aphrodite (for the youg'uns), Dieselboy, Craze/Skibadee (higher if marky had showed) followed by DJ SS, Suv, Freaky Flow/Flipside, Rap, and Invaderz in that order. Clash 4 was a party, so it doesn't really fit in here, but it defintely was packed with local talent, the hip-hop room went off!

In terms of crowd response, craziness, drunkenness, just all around killer time nothing i've seen this year came even close to the energy at Bad Company, and for contenders for second place i'd put Craze/Skibadee, Freaky Flow Flipside, Clash 4, Dieselboy (from what i've heard) , DJ SS, and Invaderz, and Suv all roughly similar. what about aphro? i didn't go? was it hyped?

in terms of musical ability/showmanship/tunes....Craze/Skibadee for the sick skills on the mike/decks, followed by Diesel for his mixing/energy(again from what i've heard), followed by Invaderz for his impressive selection and mixing, followed by Suv who played a sick show and then a COMPLETELY different sick show the next night for 20 people, followed by Goldie and Doc Scott, for Goldies tunes and Doc Scott's mixing, followed by DJ SS, wicked tunes, wicked mixing, followed by Bad Company for their tunes, not their mixing (adequate, but not particularily out of the ordinary)

so there you go.

My vote? BAD COMPANY all the way, that show was crazy, the tunes were great, we're still waiting on some of them, it was right up ther in terms of the size of the crowd, the most we've ever had in the lotus on Tuesday, and when was the last time a dnb show had a lineup around the corner by 10 am?

but in terms of the amount of people at a show, Craze/skibadee was the biggest i think.

let me know if there is any show you think i missed, and

let me have your votes.

i attended all these shows except for clash 4, freak flow, aphrodite and goldie/doc scott, but out of the ones i was at, i'd have to agree that craze and skibba at richards was the busiest night of the year... dieselboy was definetly a close second though. bad company absolulty filled up the lotus and so did SS. DJ Rap had a medium turn up, invaderz, stakka and skynet and SUV was rather small....

in terms of talent though, Dieselboy definetly delivered the wikkid business. i was blown away by the skills and originality of stakka and skynet but the turn up was rather disapointing.... bad company definetly impressed us all with fresh dubs and new sounds (and damn they smoked alotta weed! haha), DJ SS knew how to rock the crowd but there were some seriously DULL parts of his set that lost my attention... Suv's enthusiasic performance as well as original sound was awesome, invaderz definetly gave a dope show altough i remember being very tired that night... and dj rap sucked.

but wikkid year for drumnbass!

invaderz was roughly 250, and stakka and skynet was more, which are both good turn outs at the lotus, and roughly the same as SS

I wen tto more thanhalf of these events, and id have to go with Craze, probably because not only was it the biggest crowd, but also the liveliest probably.

The aphrodite show, goldie and deseilboy were pretty packed as well. So was ss i guess, but then again the lotus isnt exactly the biggest venue.
