A Friday night at Shine
It's funny how a night can turn out.
I was pumped to go to Felix. Really, I was! I've been dying to hear some ace elctro house for a long time now and when I discovered Fleix would be in town on a rare night off, I phoned a buddy of mine to get us some tix well in advance so we wouldn't miss it. Unfortunately, the old adage, "If you want something done..." came true here and buddy forgot to get tickets. Undaunted, I decide we should still make the effort and perhaps get in at the door irregardless. But, once again, things get buggered up and we don't get there until 1:15am. Since Felix was playing very late, we guessed we might as well wait in line for a while. However, by the time 2am rolled around and the line had barely moved, I said, "Fekk this!." At that, we ventured off, perhaphs finding better pastures. It seemed to be a 'Rupert Night' that night. A 'Ruper Night', for those who are unaware, is a night when, no matter where you go, you end up bumping into people you know from Rupert. It'd already happened to me a few times and, when we made our way past Shine, we saw some old Rupert friends hanging outside there as well. Naturally, we started B.S.ing, catching up on old times, and such. When they mentioned they were at Shine for the night, we decided to join them. The moment we decended that steep staircse, I knew we'd made the right decision. Tech house! Electro! Tiga & Zyntherius! FPU!! And that's just the first room. The second room had music that did what I've always felt a second room should provide: truly different styles of music. Good ol' rock 'n' roll, hip hop, even bhangra beats. As the drinks begin to flow, the dancing comes and goes, and schmoozing with friends and strangers becomes deliciously appropriate to the decadent stylizing of the music. The two hours that we were there for felt at least twice that long. Always a nice bit of evidence that you're having a great time. I can see how Shine managed to snag the number 1 position in Dance clubs and DJ clubs fin the Straight. More nights like this, please!! |

Felix played an electric 3hours lastnite (12:45 - 3am), he had the option of playing longer but declined; well wouldn't you if you just flew in from Switzerland with connecting flights in New York -> Toronto -> then Vancouver.
Now finally completed his tour, he's back home with the family chillin for a month, a first in 3 years then he's off to the studio with Puffy. His new album comes out February http://www.x-mix.com/xp/pages/artist-felix-news.html |

They played some in the second room but it seemed it was mostly a tech/electro night (perhaps a generous compensation to all us poor saps who couldn't get into Felix :soak: ) I'll definetly be checking the place out on a more regular basis, though, whenever I find time off of work. Any place that has FPU's Crockett's Theme playing in one room and The Rolling Stones' Fade To Black in the other is deece in my books. |
