Lange @ the new plaza venue..
Quote:
Just getting going? Montana & Res had the place going nicely during their set from 11-12 and then Lange rocked it for a full 2 hrs from 12-2. Some people have a habit of arriving too late out to these shows though and miss some great stuff, not to mention having more time to relax and enjoy the night! I came out to support my bros Montana & Res and was there by 10:30 and by the time it ended I thought it was perfect timing. No need to drag it out. This party was a head turner to me.. something I haven't seen in van for quite a while. There was a good vibe there, the venue I thought was killer and provided a way more intimate warm setting, not to mention the balcony area was wicked and the fact that it was all windows on the one wall so when you were on the balcony you could still see everything going on in the party. Also the sound wasn't cutting out from ANYONE tripping over the power cords, it was from the system being OVERDRIVEN. Lange had this problem once in his set (bass cabinets shutting down briefly), after someone had turned the volume up, but then he kept it from happening again and was fine the rest of his set. Azim unfortunatwely had the bass cranked way too loud and as a result managed to cut it a few times in a short time period as well as have a lot of bass feedback.. but then didn't seem to turn it down at all, and so a couple mins later (as I was expecting) suddenly the whole system went! It was down for maybe 90 seconds roughly and then afterwards the bass eq wasn't caned as hard so there were no further probs. Anyways, props out to montana & res and lex and the whole UNION & FNK family... I hope you guys appreciated what they put into this and what they are trying to do! These UNION & FNK shows are FAR from being any sort of cash grab and I can quote Montana last night early on (when he was just a bit worried for a sec wondering if enought people would show up, since people were takin their sweet time to all rush in last minute) in saying: "Either way I don't care.. I just payed 10 grand so we could party with Lange and it was worth it cause we're all gonna have an awesome time!" HUGE respect from me to the whole crew.. a wicked party and I hope none of you guys miss the next one and ARRIVE EARLY ENOUGH to enjoy more of the show!! (they started at 8pm by the way!) Support the people that are in the scene to give to it not just milk it! *Also for all you trance fans I've confirmed to play FRI JULY 23rd at VIVA for Danny Taylor and the crew.. which will be the first official Vancouver booking I've taken since headlining the 'Sky High' party in Van last summer. Come and check it out! Danny Taylor will start the night, then Sean Gallagher will be opening for me (you guys gotta check this guy out) with a progressive set followed by me playing 12-2 with a scorching set of thumping progressive house and trance! I totally support Danny's endeavours there which is why after talking to him I have accepted to come and play for less than half of what I usually make playing out of town shows.. people that are in the scene for the music need to be supported guys!!! Don't forget that! Hope to see you all there :) peace //T also up on my site for hifi mp3 download for a limited time, is my full Mixology Radio set that was recently aired from Taipei. It's the direct digital recording of the set, check it out at www.djnemesis.com |

Yah I was actually suprised at what a good party this was. The vibe there was awsome. Great people and good tunes. The Breaks room was completly empty which was a little dissapointing but still overall i was impressed with the Venue.
I had a great time with all of the guys like Danny, Jordan, Tom, Adam, Charlie, Brett and all of the others. Thanks for the support Tom, it's MUCH appriceated. :) Come check Tom and I out @ Viva on July 23rd! ~Sean |

I was there. I would have enjoyed it alot more if you would have promoted your party towards a more diverse group. Ie: Anyone outside of the 30+ asian crowd. Of course you may have only captured that market because they are the only ones willing to pay 30 dollars for anyrhing with less than 1000 people.
The venue was great. That was the only time it was used other than DA's FULLY LEGAL (my 19th birthday party) For your future shows I hope you would consider crafting your party into an event with a broader range. PS: I know it was a party headlined by a trance act but I know many partiers who would have loved to see Czech rock it in a packed second room. |

As far as the ticket cost thing goes, anyone prefer seeing a big name dj/producer like Lange flown in from the uk to play directly in front of you right there with the crowd? rather than 30 feet away up in a tower or something?? Also playing to an intimate sized crowd and warm venue for hundreds rather than thousands of people? That did a LOT for the vibe of the room. That type of experience is difficult for promoters to provide when they aren't relying on a massive event and over-commercializing it.. it's a financial risk that people trying to make money would not attempt. All I can say is enjoy it while it lasts, because the scene has never been that profitable to people who are in it for the music and not to cut corners and milk it for cash.. paying 30$ for a ticket is a hell of an easier way to see Lange than risking 10 grand any day! Payin the bill for guys like him is MUCH easier to do when you've got a 2000+ person show. |

This party was awesome. Scotty Oh and Czech and Azim were the best DJ's there imo.
Man, it was an awesome party, great music, great chill, great atmosphere. The balcony was off the hook. EDIT: ROFL I spelled Azim's name as Aziz. Weeee >_<! Last edited by Mydnyte; Jul 13, 04 at 10:31 AM. Reason: Spelling >_<! |

Secondary point being, an intimate show like that is what our party scene needs to do more of. The party scene, fresh off the dimise of Riverside and Plaza, is in a time of transition (but when is it not? heh) and i'm seeing a disturbing phenomenon that is producing a fragmented electronic music community. I'm am advocating that promoters attempt to bring the eclectic crowds that Plaza and Riverside brought, due to their sheer volume, to a smaller, more intimate show.

^i totally agree with the more intimate show bit.
However, for a party that was a 50/50 trance/breaks event, i'm not really surprised at the crowd turnout. Azim and his trance are a selling genre. I got a lot of really good vibes off complete strangers. Everyone was there to have fun, there weren't stupid amounts of outrageously flaily people (as far as raves go), and it was a pretty decent vibe over all. |

I first off want to say it was great hanging out with Seany G, Tom and Danny. It was also nice to meet Brett(Dj Soma) I wish I could have heard more of your set however.
As for the actually party, I had a great time but for once, I wasn't really paying attention to the music. I use to go to these parties knowing hardly anyone so all I could was pay attenion to the music and I never had a chance to actually have fun. With that being said, I cannot comment of any of the dj's there which is shame because I was really looking forward to hearing some quality trance. The one thing I can comment on was the vibe and the venue. Everyone there seemed to be having a good time or maybe it was just the mood I was in hahah. Anyways, I look forward to coming back over again for The Niklas Harding show at Viva next month. |
