Apex Project 2004 Stage-by-Stage Review
Apex, what can I say. This years summer outdoor massive defiantly brought out everyone and everything. I saw some amazing stages unlike any I have seen in the past, people and friends who I have not seen in years, and most importantly more music then you could shake a glowstick at. The ride up there was a snoozer. Grabbed a power hour ZZzz before getting into the fifty car parking lot just off 138. Nice to see no Police trap there this year, I remember they got us pretty good once. Parked now walking up I could spot a decent sized lineup of people, nothing ten minuets couldn’t take care of. Lots of vip upgrades, I watched atleast twenty people pay the additional ten on my way in to skip line. I can't imagine how many other people did. Bugs were pretty good this year, I can't say I have too many bites. Just a few that sorta itch..
The best part about Apex Project is range of music offered; everyone can find a tune they enjoy. Talent from across Canada, Seattle, and around the world makes the trip each year. This is what makes Apex so popular, the diversity of local/national productions all contributing. There is so much great music; how can you stay put at one stage wondering what else you’re missing. Oh someone help me sort out who/what/was: Was Bass Junkies up in the top ridge with the other laser setup? Who was the company with the dancefloor on the walk in? What the hell was that guy dressed like a Sasquatch? Automatic / TwentyHZ / Boomtown / C1RCA You guys had a great stage, great setup, just I think a little lacking on pointing out where you were. Needed like giant glowing arrow pointing "this way", that back spot is sorta tucked away.. you really miss allot of kids. I enjoyed the tunes anytime I was around, watching some of your anime was a great time passer, plus I caught a little of the Ricey movie. What movie was that anime? Everything sharp from the cammo netting, to the equipment, and the screen/visuals. Good job guys! Oh, and I saw someone running around with your C1RCA sign around his head in the morning.. lol Evolve / Photonic Good job boys, your stage defiantly stepped it up. It was a little messy on my ears for the first bit of the evening there; however, you maintained a steady group of people. Crowd was good as the sun went up, props to.. Detn8r I saw you having a great time. Thrillseekers destroyed your stage. Fuck, can that guy rock it or what? I’m glad he got the crowd he deserved. He was a little tired after working with the mixer/monitor setup, "..I had to work very hard." were his words. Thanks to UNION for bringing such a high caliber DJ out to Apex again! You guys lit up that stage with Steve. Modern Music / Triple A Holly shit. That shit was Slick! Rosco and crew, you guys did an excellent job. I was knocked on my ass by them lasers, they fucken lit up the entire valley. Loving the pyramid, oh the memories of years back when there was a similar like setup. Good work to the crew on that one. I heard some real pounding tunes from this stage, Rosco especially. Thanks guys for the refreshments, I had a few 7ups over the evening. This place had it all, beats, setup, visuals and good people. So special mention deserved to ModernMusic/TripleA for coming out swinging at this years Apex.. My favorite stage. Leftcoast Undertainment The hip-hop was a huge success. You guys had a just massive crowd from the start. Interesting concept, play hip-hop too bring them.. then midmorning you rock on some electronic (only the best old tunes, thx Cinto) then throw on some more hip-hop. I heard some of the best music of the night from this stage. 'take me to..' FUNKY TOWN! Hahaha, this stage was the most fun I had at Apex. You guys scored the back room, but your giant sign was PEEERFECT! Good move! I couldn't tell it your sign inside was "Team Drunk" untill I wasn't drunk. Very nice high setup for the DJ, I was a little worried Rhia was going to fall but she made it. Solid Funk, I loved it. Steller, radical, and grooovy TeamDrunk. BOODANG Huh!!? WHATT??! Oh sorry, I’m just a little deaf in the ears. Boodang, that shit POUNDED! I mean it was loud. Props to some of the best sound at the party. I just stood from a distance in awe and enjoyed. How was Donald’s set? I completely missed it. I did catch Azimmers lay a few down, awesome man. Missed that 'Satisfaction' track, next time. Solid stage setup, good tunes, you guys impressed me on all levels. Money Entertainment Mission accomplished big guy. You did what you said you would, gave em a run for their money; sorta speak. Dude that setup was siick, the double towers with smoke floating out of them made your stage look like some sort of ApexCastle from up on the ridge. It's all about position man. Did you really get up there at noon? Wow, first come first serve must mean day of setup because you were in a sweetie. The gloves were hilarious, not to mention the worker outfits. Mateo/Akeel how fucken long did you guys play, I think you almost span the entire party in hours all together. You boys are troopers, loved the 'Silence' Akeel. Muns your stage rocked Apex dawg, you really stole the show. I'm curious to see what Money Entertainment has up his sleeves next. Masterplan / Swing Kids / FNK.CA Fun! However, I just don't know about the double stage setup anymore. I think when a company (or group of them) puts on multiple stages at Apex; each stage loses a little in overall oompft. (Twisted did rock the two stages two years back) Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of appealing to two totally different music crowds all night. You just don't get that 'Wow' effect in the overall setup as you could with one stage. Aside from that we had some really cool lighting. The backstage was a tad dark, but the trance side was rocking some industrial strobes. I almost walked into the stage four times. Thanks to all the great talent that came out, our contest winners ppcock and k-pryde, Mike (Pegasus) for his last minute set. Mike your defiantly onboard next year man! |

I found cody and i classified each stage for something...
After wandering my drunked ass around the grounds i realised, the Hip-Hop stage, Evolve and Money had a constant vibe coming off grabbing people here and there... Brightest/interesting stage would be the money entertainment stage Best Sound was BOODANG hands down Most orginiality goes to team drunk Cleanest setup was the fnk/swingkids stage....soo clean and MOST IMPRESSIVE STAGE WAS THE PYRAMID STAGE with the insane lazer (Triple A im assuming...) |

Was Leftcoast Undertainment on the side of Money's Rave stage? no i think leftcoast was the "larger" stage further towards the back but on that same side? I seem to recall speed garage at that stage in the morning when there was supposed to be speed garage at leftcoast...... Wizzfish : A lot of ppl thought we were next to Money or even near the front entrance.. To the ppl that dont know.. we were near the end of the field Across the FNK/SWING KIDS stage and directly beside the FUNKY TOWN / TEAM DRUNK stage. And yes we did have some speed garage. Around 430am...and also after 630am. (courtesy of Cinto & Brentley B) - hope that helps! |
