Bias (Shadow Jugglers, Fixed Fridays, Bias Group, Ruff House)
DJ Name - Bias www.myspace.com/djbias Email:[email protected] Contact - E-mail me or add me to ya MSN - dont' front on that shit!! Genre Of Music: Drum n'Bass, Downtempo(Ninja Tunes), IDM, Hip Hop, and now DUBSTEP!!! Affiliations: Shadow Jugglers, Fixed Fridays, Bias Group, Ruff House Residencies:Fridays@Fixed(320 Abbott St.) and Shadow Jugglers 101.9 sat 7-9pm Links: www.nwdnb.bc.ca www.breakbeat.co.uk www.dogsonacid.com How long have you spinning the decks for? 7 years What originally hooked you into the DJing scene? I heard Dj Q-Bert Camel Bobsled Race on Acid and wanted to become a Scratch Dj originally. Then after finally saving up enough money digging dirt at a construction job I bought tables(I had a shit mixer tho and so was discouraged from skratching and a couple of my good friends were all into Drum n'Bass and so I started to buy dnb and proceeded to teach myself how to mix, since no one I knew owned tables at all before I bought em myself I really am pretty much a self taught Dj/ What type of music do you specialise in? Drum n'Bass first and foremost but I also love playing Ninja Tune and IDM(Aphex Twin, U-Ziq, Squarepusher, Luke Vibert[also known as Plug and Wagon Christ, this guy is the fucking man too], Bogdan Razynski, etc......) Most expensive vinyl that you have paid for? - how much was it? Rude and Deadly - Give me a Dubplate (97' Remix)/Original Mix This is a really really really good tune and cost me $80 and a Bogdan Raczinski Album called Samuari Math Beats cost me like $80 as well. What is your most treasured record and why? Well that's hard to say because I have thousands and thousands of records and it wouldn't be fair to single out just one plus I am constantly adding to that collection so that makes even harder but you can always check out the General section on the www.nwdnb.bc.ca forum for this months Top Tens usually that is what I'm all about at the moment. Hmmm after further thought I think that my most treasured record would have to be Plug "Drum n'Bass for Papa" I got it Signed when Luke was in town last and even he was impressed that I owned it(it's very hard to find supposedly) What events have you played at? I have played at so many events over the last 3-4 years but my most memoriable events would have to be: Apex Project 02' on the Twisted Stage with Dabbler(Thanks Dabs), the first Rum n'Ass party (thanks 4 eyes at nwdnb), the Rinse NYE 03' & 04' parties plus the 4:20 party in 03' and basically every party put on by Royal Platoon because I always have the best time(Big Up and Thanks to Ali and the kru), and just over the summer Divercity Festival on Texada Island(Big up to Sherwood and Terence for dis and I used to do a club night at Club 23 West on Thursdays with my boy Dj Frame(he was my first dj partner back in the day) called Intake Thursdays, I had many memorable times playing there and it's where I first ever played out, thanks to all who supported us. Plus, I've opened for the likes of Dj Suv on two occasions(Big Up Marvel, Franz and Edit Kru as well as Psidream@Overload Radio), Dj Fresh, Slip n'Slide, Capital J , Ryan Ruckus, Hive, Marcus Visionary, Kenny Ken, Hive... plus I'm sure there will be more to come. I have had many many more good experiences over the years so BIG BIG UP to anyone who has booked me in the past or let me play at there oneoff/clubnight and will in the future, big thanks to all. What National / International clubnights have you played at? I have played at a NYE party in Ottawa in 02', as well I have been to Calgary and played at a party, plus I played at an afterhours for USC 07(I think it was 07 anyway) which was at like 11:00am so it was pretty rinsed out (Seattle afterparties can be quite sketchy to say the least). Also was lucky enough to get the chance to play in Ediburough, Scotland which was a good time, had the most amazing sound system. Have you got any DJing horror stories? Not really I always have a really good time while djing. I was a bit nervous when I first started Djing but I got over it (sometimes I still get nervous tho) but it's all about getting in the "zone" but this can take a bit to find somtimes. And encouragement from other Dj's is very helpful too. Are you a resident DJ, if so where? I currently host a Radio Show called Shadow Jugglers on 101.9fm Citr - www.citr.ca on Sat. from 7-9pm with Jimungle & Myster E Mc + guests I have a Residency @The Met on Fridays 320 Abbot St. with Dj's Shamus and Myster E Mc + Guests And of course I can't forget my living room cause it's my favorite place to jam out. :P Any other information? I love to go swimmng and I go everyday it's one of the things I enjoy most in life. And Big Up and thanks to Everyone who has supported me over the years I won't mention any names but you all know who you are. :D Tobias Dyce aka Bias Last edited by bias dj; Nov 11, 06 at 05:40 PM. |

I remember seeing you spin at those weird random parties in Lucas' garage back in highschool in WR. Man, I miss living across the street from this guy, nothing like coming over in my pyjamas on the weekend to smoke a joint and watch him spin. haha |

this is so true!
sub-resident
n. A non resident dj that hangs out at the weekly club night accompanied by records. A sub-resident is self apointed if he wishes after 40 non concecutive weeks at the club at his/her discretion. The sub-resident is usualy down with the crew at the club, so he always gets to go behind the decks :P check urban dictionary tomorrow...:) |

^^ bias forgot to mention that he is in fact a "load-bearing" dj, essential to the structural integrity of the lotus dj booth on any drum and bass night. apparently the whole thing would collapse if he were not there propping the back corner up all night long...a role that he inherited from smurf i might add...
